"DO YOU ALL SEE IT NOW? EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTS GAMERGATE ARE BAD PEOPLE!!!"s

Interesting, they wouldn't hesitate when a member of taliban or al-qaeda blows himself up everyone shouts "Not all Muslims are terrorists!" which is true, but when someone does this and says he supports gamergate, everyone is like "This is why gamers are bad people! WAKE UP!"

At least, this is how I understand it and what Anita wants everyone to perceive Gamergate and/or gamers

Ohhh common now...

Not related, that's more about why it's a bad idea, my point is that Anita wants everyone to view pro-gg people as people, as sexist, misogynists and racists.

Now, I know what you are thinking "But weirdo you boob, haven't you heard of pcgamingwiki.com?" Yes, yes I have heard of it but that is more about the main game itself, tweaking files and linking you to recommended mods. But for many games, there are always those amazballs mods that everyone else seem to get to work but no matter how much effort you put into it, it doesn't work. I know this is a long post but I have to justify this thread to the mods so they won't lock it. Here's an example

Take this mod here Rage of the Dark Gods A warhammer mod for Medieval II Total War/Kingdoms, looks amazing right? Good luck installing it, it will either crash within your first 5 turns regardless of faction, or 10th or 15th, you will not pass beyond 50 turns if you have crashed within 5 turns (Believe me, people have tried)

Turning off VAC when installing it on the C: drive won't help, running the game/mod in compatibility mode with admin rights may fix the issue, until the 50th turn passes, you will crash. Even if you read the installation guide and did everything right, there is still a big chance you will crash, you can try google the answer but the answers are spread out, not in the same place.

If you have tried in the past and failed or interested in it, this is the fix that worked for me
1: If you are installing it on the C: drive, you MUST turn of VAC, if you have installed the main game folder in another drive, ignore this step (I know, but it has to be done or VAC will screw up the installation)2) install it with admin rights here and install it at minimum 5 times (the more the merrier) The same goes to all patches and translations \SteamApps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods MAKE SURE THE FOLDER IS NAMED AS Call_of_Warhammer any deviation will cause launch problem later on
3) Go to your steam library (the software not the folder) Right click on Medieval II > Properties > "Set Launch Options" Then add: --features.mod=mods/Call_of_Warhammer
4) NOW delete all map.rwm files from data\world\maps\ - do that each time after updating mod files
5) delete strings.bin files from data\text\ folder - rarely necessary

Step number 3 is for users who aren't using the Launcher which was removed when Gamespy shut down. If you reverted back to the launched follow these steps:
Go here To download Kingdoms Launcher Editing Application (I used this program before Gamespy shut down and steam took over, there is no virus) You'll need an account, sorry, but dems the rules, you COULD try and run the game without it but I highly doubt you'll be able to as this mod isn't the only one that has had launch issues.
Then go here and follow the instructions
Again this program is only needed if you reverted back to the OLD launcher BEFORE Valve took over! Ignore this step if you use the launcher provided by Valve

Additional stability fixes
1) disable the advisor - crucial to maintain battle stability (highly recommended)
2) turn autosaving off - may help in getting rid of campaign map CTDs (highly recommended)3) Friendly reminder to install the mod with admin rights at minimum 5 times, personally I recommend 8 times, including all patches and translations.

Most of these advices are taken from the forum but I wanted to spare you the time googling it <3

And that should be it, you should now be set to run the game smoothly-ish. You can play the mod for 6 - 10 hours with no problem but at some days it can crash and some days not. Still worth it.

And this is the premise for this thread, a place where people can post fixes for mods which is otherwise mind baffling hard to find. Crossing my fingers this thread won't be locked.

If there is one thing I have noticed is that no one has asked this question: What is going on in sweden that made the majority vote for them?

Hello, how are you? Good? That is good, no, I am not good but thanks for asking, why? Well because there is this woman who lied and manipulated thousands and thousands of people over the internet and is responsible for mass censoring in 4chan (censoring in /b/ /pol/ and either it was /v/ or /vg/ I can't remember) on reddit, faking her own doxxing and faking that her tumblr account was hacked.

"But why?" You ask? This video will explain everything. The short version is basically she had sex with her boss, to which you must be thinking "Well, that is bad but doesn't warrant all this!" I agree but it gets worse, her boyfriend posted this long post claiming she had sex with Nathan Grayson on Kotaku for exposure and favorable review for her game. Now, I don't know about that you but that sounds like a massive conflict of interest. And there is more to this, A LOT more, optional investigation of this matter can be seen here I highly recommend reading this here and this here may not mean anything but I'm just gonna leave this on the table, this is the guy censoring reddit some random developer to not say anything about Zoe Quinn or else he won't be able to work as a game developer and here is his rant about it

She might have tried to frame 4chan but failed.

Gamer Headlines covering it

And you can view everything else here

Is it wrong for journalists and video game developers to be friends? No, is it wrong to be close friends? No, but is it ok to show favoritism between the 2? NO. What are my thoughts on the matter? My thoughts are: If a male did something similar, he would be fired, discredited and we would never hear from him again but because this all happened because of a female, apparently, this falls under the "special circumstances" folder. But that is my thought, I hope you will spend some time divulging this and come to your own conclusion instead of believing what you have read on the surface, it is time to break out that shovel and do some digging!

Dear mods: Her private information was never leaked. She gave up false information proving more that she was never hacked, not 100% proven that she did this herself but I choose to believe so.

@weirdo: You are mistaking an E3 press conference presentation with a consumer advertisement. There's a reason why those press conference videos say work in progress, alpha, does not reflect final product. Otherwise they wouldn't show it at all. You are not comparing like with like, your analogy is corrupt. An E3 press conference video is not a promise to consumers.

I wish Watch_Dogs looked better too, but I would have looked at the actual product being sold before buying it. I certainly would not have relied on an E3 trailer from 2 years previous. We live in an information redundancy, there are reviews and opinions about every consumer product. Consumers had the tools to gauge what Watch_Dogs looked like and make their own decision, but they're junkies, so they bought it anyway and then complained about it. They probably complained about it while they were in line to buy it.

There are myriad ways that consumers get fucked over. And there are myriad ways consumers fuck themselves over and look elsewhere for the reason. Exercise good judgment in the marketplace. Always.

Didn't know there was a difference, I always thought both were same but apparently not, thank you.

@development: Alright, so, I'm gonna write this down detailed as much as possible without sounding like an asshole (I apologize in advance if I do) about why that statement is bullshit

Imagine you are sitting in front of your TV in your apartment (If you don't then imagine you do) when an advertisment shows up, it's a new tv that supports wireless internet, 3D without having to use glasses which they promptly shows working, 4K resolution, in-build phone for emergencies which is also voice activated and it is for a reasonable price! You thought it would be really expensive (but worth it) but it is actually cheaper than you thought!

So you buy one the same day and within the week it arrives, you connect it, sit down to read the manual when you discover, there is no wireless! But it supports cabled internet, the 3D feature actually requires glasses despite being advertised otherwise, it doesn't support 4K but rather 1080P, there is no in-build phone (Aw shucks).

Naturally, you're mad because you didn't get the product you were promised, so you call in to complain and demand to get your money back only to be greeted with "I'm sorry, but we never downgraded your product, what you have is what we showed" You tell them that it is bullshit, you tell them you could easily gather evidence and sue them for fraud but again, you are met with "Again, we insist that we never lied to our customers, we appreciate our customers and your happiness is our top priority" Then he/she hangs up, so now you sit there with a product that is only half what they promised. Wouldn't you be mad too when you caught them in a blatant lie?

The difference is they never promised those graphics... watch any trailer from when the game was released, they looked nothing like the two year old E3 demos. This would be like seeing a prototype TV at CES, waiting two years for it to come out, buying it without looking to see if anything changed in two years, then bitching that it wasn't the same.

Anyway, I tried the graphics mod. It makes the game run better and mostly look better but the shallow-to-a-fault DOF makes it unplayable because everything is out of focus unless you run all the time, or aim your gun every 10 seconds. So I can see why they cut that out, for sure.

Well tbf to the guy who found it he was really tired when he released it but you have a point, thank you.

@weirdo: Lemme explain, then. Everything I'm saying was covered by the guy I quoted, who said all that needed to be said. I'll assume, for some reason, you're refusing to allow yourself to believe the very sensible things he was saying, so I'll continue anyway.

Let's start at the beginning. The game is developed to a point where they think they can get a product demo looking good for e3 (or wherever those first demos were shown). At this point in development QA is seriously reduced if existent at all, and they have made 0 builds of the game (a build is when you compile all the assets and code into an exécutable that can run on a PC, MAC, Linux, whatever, or console). Nothing in the game is final at this point. They get the date they'll be showing the game off and start making a demo. This can range from a totally scripted, unrealistic mess; to something like the No Man's Sky demo, which (according to Brad) was a bunch of in-game events triggered to happen all in the same 2-minute period; to pure gameplay. The Watch Dogs original club-centered demo was obviously a scripted one with fake scripted events happening around the player, along with the graphics options set the way they wanted them to be for the demo. After the demo, they take criticisms, pray the showing was good enough to keep working on the game, or whatever, and continue development.

First off, when you're developing a game, you don't test it with all the graphics settings maxed out unless they are relevant to the thing you're testing. You test it looking like a PS1 game, aside from polygon count, probably. You need the game to load as fast as possible so you can get in, check the thing you're working on, and go back to your code to make changes. Repeat five-thousand times. You only re-up the graphics when it comes time to make another demo or make an actual game-build.

CEOs are often totally out of touch. They look at spreadsheets and statistics and listen to their advisers. Most are probably still trapped in the old way of thinking: that consoles make the most money and have the largest userbase. Thus, this is what the game is tuned to run on. Down to the very last minute of development, they are tweaking variables to make sure the game runs well on the relevant console. At this point, no one has thought about the PC release, and -- this is important -- if you talk to anyone on staff they are sick as fuck of working on the game, have no desire to prolong development, just want to be done with this thing, and can find no personal enjoyment from playing it anymore. They are happy to stick to their deadline. Oh yeah, sorry guys, one last thing you gotta do. Make the PC port. Yes, the "port." At this point, development has finished on the console versions. The builds have been made. You grab a small team of worn out programmers and task them with grabbing the latest build and making a Steam build. They push one out as fast as they can, dunk their heads in toilets, and go home.

That's it.

You need to understand that, more or less, this is how it works.

It's not that I don't believe him, it's that I simply don't trust Ubisoft anymore (which is not Watch_Dogs related) but this has given me a greater insight on how game development works and I thank you for that

Only your hypothetical and what happened aren't related at all. I downloaded the mod, it 1. consists of unfinished code abandoned for whatever reason, and given the fact that the game got hella delayed I don't think it's some wild conspiracy, they just didn't have the time to make it look that good and 2. despite what the internet is saying, doesn't make it look "like the E3 version" at all. It looks better yes, but it's mostly lighting shit, not all the particles/smoky effects and shit from the E3 version.

In addition, as the GB guys say all the time, what is shown in demos and what are released often change, the E3 demo was likely what they were targeting and they got a build out that showed that small chunk of the game looking like htat, but they couldn't hit that target. At no point did they say "the final thing will for sure look like this", whereas in your hypothetical an ad is of course supposed to represent the final product. If in their trailers the game looked like the E3 build then you may have an argument. Everyone screaming about conspiracies and shit because Ubi weren't able to make Watch_Dogs looks as good as possible don't have an argument.

Also there is no way that you could threaten Ubi "with fraud" as in your analogy. Look at E3 trailers of previous games and tell me how many of them look exactly like the final product. They're works in progress for a reason.

Not that I ever did threaten them
