A controller is a general tool. A pc and a mouse is a specific tool. It's made for pointing and clicking. This means more accuracy in shooters. FYI, I have only a macbook pro and do most of my gaming on an Xbox.

It was never been popular on consoles. It is still one of the main bread and butters on the pc. Specific genre on consoles has typically always been popular. The playstation generation was third person platformers. This generation it's FPS.

While you make a lot of valid points, Peter Molyneux always preaches bullshit. He's not called the carnival barker of the game industry for nothing. Just because he makes a new development company doesn't mean that will change. If anything, he's going to make more promises he wont keep.

I realize now (after the interview he did with Patrick) that he's actually not selling you the games he makes. He sells the idea of the game he wants to make- even though his ideas are to grand to actually make work in a video game (at least, it seems that way since they are never as good as he says they are and he also has this want to troll players for some reason calling it "emotional connection").

I still respect him and the games he has made (up until Fable 2) even though I wont ever buy a game he makes ever again, but ya... he's always full of shit. That's not particularly new =P

I wrote a blog specifically to help newcomers. It's multiplayer but it also applies to single player real-time. It is not finished yet. Given how little interest there is, I don't think I will bother finishing it.

He specifically askes "where have the real-time strategy game gons? The simuation games?" Since these have always been prominent on the pc and practically nonexistent on consoles, the answer is obvious, with obvious reasons regardless of context. Also, I specifically mentioned how console games where increasing on this generation of platforms. Aside from the simplistic controls (that have always existed) consoles are by nature designed to be a accessible on the couch experience. It's partly why FPS became popular on the platform and why the genre has changes drastically to a more simplified accessible experience.

Also please do not boss people around in regards to emotion or type in caps while being wrong. It is not very chum like.

Molyneux is dumb. I'm sorry but he is, everyone claims he is this amazing visionary but what has he really done to push forward games development? Very little. Plus RTSs do still exist, Starcraft, Total War and even C&C is still alive in some capacity and on top of that there are plenty of other indie strategy games still being released.

Populous was pretty awesome. Ditto Dungeon Keeper & Theme Park. Don't remember if he was involved in Theme Hospital. And the ideas he has are always interesting, so I'll listen to what he has to say, but is games rarely live up to his talk so I don't buy them very often. In fact Black & White is probably the last Peter Molyneux game I owned.

Yeah, his statement is totally bonkers and it's almost discredited by the fact that gamepad support exists and is used heavily in PC games that aren't first person shooters. Who wants to play Assassins Creed 2 without a gamepad? How about Arkham City? People do it, but most don't prefer it, right? In his defense, you can totally see where he's coming from and maybe he just articulated it very poorly. If you're looking at genre growth then it's obvious that first person shooters are getting most of the buzz and traffic as compared to other genres, and keyboards definitively are freeing compared to the limitations of a controller, but his statement's still pretty out there.
