Not anything new for PC gamers. I just finished up Metro 2033 in 3D,  the game engine already works flawlessly with nvidia 3D vision.

Brad is totaly right in his assumption.  Looking through the gas mask, the dark long corridors, laser sighted weapons,  no HUD, and horror atmosphere make it the best 3D game I've played so far. (batman AA close 2nd, Bad Company 2 3rd).   Haters gonna hate, but 3D is a perfect fit for these horror, tense, atmospheric games.

I recently picked up Metro 2033 at 50% off (2 weekends ago),  and got mirrors edge last weekend for 4 bucks.

Unless they want to put alien breed on sale for like 5 bucks I think I'm good on steam sales for a bit.

@Phished0ne:   OK??? but you are avoiding my real point that being cynical and making exaggerated comments like "WAIVE MY ARMS AROUND LIKE A LUNATIC JUST TO TURN UP THE VOLUME"  is short sighted.   Things like better 3D displays and evolutions of this motion sensing hardware/software will clearly have a major role in many areas of future technology.

And despite you claiming 3D and holograms are different technologies currently, they still came from the same technological idea, aka wanting to see something displayed in 3D.   Which brings me right back to my point that all old (successful or failed) technology leads us towards unknown future technologies.  So give me any new tech and I'll try it. Bring on the future!

 Bring on the FUTURE!
Why are people complaining about moving to fast??  Dude, I want faster, I wanna see the holodeck before I die. I want to see full eye tracking, freaking holograms, sharks with laser beams, invisible cloth, light speed travel, the matrix, dick tracy watches, whatever.   For fucks sake why slow down, bring on the future.     Same goes for all this 3D stuff, bring it on, its an evolutionary process, first we had b/w photos, then color, the, b/w 2D video, then color, then red blue 3D, the polarized 3D, then the virtua boy, now we are at the next step.  With out this step how are we ever going to get to the holodeck!

@MrKlorox:   Good points about the tech, 3D will keep getting better.     Another advancement that needs to happen for movies is 60fps Digital 3D.  So far I've only seen Avatar in 3D, but the 30fps film gives off a jitter that is a little uncomfortable at points, bumping it up to 60fps would drastically reduce that.     Which is just another thing games have going for them, less jitter because the currently 3D tech comes from 120hz screens, so each eye gets 60hz, aka 60fps.   For me, hours of play and I have zero strain at 120hz.

PS: I read Cameron pushed the studio to let him go to 60fps to lower the jitter during panning but they said no.   Now with the crazy success of Avatar, and the announcement of Avatar 2 I am thinking he will get his wish of 60fps digital for Avatar 2.

I love how the haters are also the uninformed morons that went and saw Clash of the Titians in 3D.   I'll be blunt and say that in this day and age if you saw the shitty 3D version of Clash of the Titains, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!  Be an educated consumer, know what you are giving your money for.    One simple google search for  "clash of the titans 3D" and you get a long list of sites ranting "Filmed in 2D!, NOT WORTH THE MONEY, 3D conversion was farmed out to lowest bidder in India, bubble faced men, ect and ect", even news channels were mentioning it.

The sad truth is those sly marketing techniques worked on your dumbass and now you are looking back and blaming them when all they did was the very things business are designed to do, take your money!  Be aware of what you pay for.  After all when you pay for something you only encourage them to do it again.

3D movies can be cool (I've seen avatar only and it had some cool 3D scenes), but 3D games are a completely different thing.  Movies you see the 3D images but have zero control, you are taken where they want you to go.  Games are modeled 3D environments and you have complete control of the character and camera. This alone makes a big difference in the immersion and way you experience a game.   Granted this is a niche type of gamer, if you don't like 3D, or are all about k/d ratios and competitive crap you probably won't like the extra depth.  But if you are even slightly interested in 3D movies, or like immersive game worlds, or in general are a graphics whore (I am!), at somepoint give a 3D game a chance.   And don't do a moron move and pick the shittiest red/blue glasses pack-in game with 3D! in the title, I am talking full on shutter glasses with Batman AA, Bad Company 2 or some other AAA title.

The biggest thing, it is OPTIONAL!!  Like how surround sound is optional, or eating candy, or listening to howard stern, IF you don't like it DON'T DO IT.     No one is forcing anyone to buy the equipment, let alone watch something in 3D, yet everyone talks like they are.

3D Gaming >>>> 3D movies

@danimal_furry: Yo,  I am the guy from the screened that started this ball rolling and I guess should throw my 2 cents in:

First off some background.  I kinda fell in to 3D gaming, believe it or not.    Needed a new TV about 3 years ago and since I am not rich, but games and movies are a big hobby I wanted a large but cheap 1080p screen.  I settled on a Samsung LED DLP 67" (just a cheap DLP, $1800 I think i paid), which happend to have 3D sync on it.     Down the road I upgrade my gaming PC to a GTX 260.   So, I have all this gear and I see this new Nvidia 3D product for $200.  I do a little research and basically come to the conclusion that if I got it I could play many of my  PC games in 3D.    Half Life 2, Left for dead,  psychonauts, and tons more worked in 3D.   So I bought it and it is fucking amazing.  It totally brought a new level of enjoyment and immersion to all my games,  Batman AA is just insane in 3D, right now I am playing the new GTA add ons in 3D.

So that's the background, now here is my question.  Who here has played Metro 2033, or BadCompany 2, or Just Cause 2, or Batman AA  on HDTV in stereoscopic 3D?    I ask because every single person that I have shown it to is blown away.  Some games are just insaine, like Batman AA with detective vision on very slick.

Now "I hate that shit" is fine, whether they get motion sick, one eyed, or just plain don't like 3D, everyone is entitled to there tastes .   But wishing display technology stop progressing forwards and just settle on 2D only comes off as uninformed and angry.    I say uninformed because it is an OPTION, turn it on, turn it off, it is that simple.  And it has no effect on game development, games are created in 3D worlds, they are just only rendering one perspective, no extra development there, all hardware limited, don't like it, don't buy the hardware.   Same goes for surround sound, don't like it, don't want to pay the money, fine, don't buy it, the speakers in your TV will do you just fine.   I hope you do see that it would be pretty dumb to be shouting "die 5.1 sound, die!" because its an option.

If anybody has questions about  3D PC gaming, or Home Theater PCs in general hit me up here, I'd be glad to help.

This man speaks the truth. It was probably bound to be Activision anyway, as they (essentially) just lost their #1 fps developer. People are acting like Activision bought Bungie, which is entirely not true. "

They had to sign with someone, so is this really that crazy? More like it just caught us all off guard.   In the end it was it was either going to be Activision or EA.  I guess Activision made the best offer.
