F-Zero definitely, with Mario world a close second. Those mode 7 racers on the snes are infinitely more playable than any of those megadrive racers. I might have to go play some F-Zero now
Wesker at the end of resident evil 5 comes to mind, not the boss itself just the inexplicably hard button mashing required for one of the quick time events.
You'd definitely get a bigger improvement from improving your CPU, and getting a new motherboard may mean you have to get some new ram, but its a commitment in money and time as your essentially building a new pc. I'd never recommend throwing a lot of money at graphics cards unless your desparate to run the couple of games that require them maxed out.
I'd agree with quite a few of your top ten - if your going to make a general top games of all time list, things like that kind of have to be on there. Complaining about predicatablity on a list like this is kind of pointless. If you were going to put some kind of spin on it then you might expect some different choices. Seems a pretty solid list!
I agree that doom definitely holds up. I think it's because no one is doing that style of level design now. It's kind of the bangai-O of fps's where each level has its own gimic and crazy challange within the overall limited set of assets. I think orcarina of time definitely holds up as well. The mechanics are pretty much the same as any modern 3d zelda (bar stamina etc in skyward sword) and I think the music is some of the best in any game ever. The problem is graphics come back into nostalgia and become retro as time goes on. I can stand anything from the GameCube era bar really stylised games like wind waker or crazy 2D stuff like chu chu rocket, but in a few years I'll probably find them really nostalgic.
I noticed the amazon situation but managed to get it when it was on one of its in stock days. Tesco have had it in stock recently online i think. It doesn't appear to be now though.
