@captain_insano: That has got to be in my top 10 of favourite GB moments, easily. He had me in stitches.

Congrats to both of Dan and Bianca, couldn't of happened to a nicer heel :)

After repurchasing Vegas 2 on Steam a while back, I found much comfort in returning to the old Vegas Casino map in terrorist hunt mode and trying to get through Realism in solo. You are right that the controls are a hurdle now as a post CoD gamer, but it kind of makes the game a sharp looking roguelike tactical shooter. Unfortunately the AI tends to just run towards the gunfire, making stacking up on a door with an LMG a very easy, cheap exploit, but I had a lot of tense fun with the game in the "modern era" of video games.

I can't speak to the story, as I don't remember it (which perhaps says enough for itself) but I do remember Vegas 1 being one of the first games I ever finished with that cliffhanger ending and being very annoyed.

Anyway, it's a little bit of a gem in the right light in my opinion. The obtuse controls manage to force the player to think a little bit more about what they want to do and how they should do it, which ties into what the player is enacting. Because it isn't a twitch shooter with fluid controls, it ends up feeling, although entirely unintentionally, like Dark Souls. You have wind up animations on peeking out and taking a shot. You need to be wary of your surroundings and what's around you and you go down quickly if you aren't playing well.

However, @darth_navster is totally right in that it isn't a great feeling modern shooter, which is what it was going for at the time (with left over tactic mechanisms from previous games).

Nice write up, duder.

Its hillian, you are all wrong. It would be highrulian as a short hand for hyrule, highlian just makes no sense and sounds bad.

Also i may or may not be a scientist, so take my word as fact and move along.

Oh thank god Mr. Scientist. I thought I was going mad. So it is definitely Hill-e-an and not this Hi-lee-an crap. Everyone else is saying it wrong and the fairies in my head want me to punish them all.

Can't you return it? Surely you will be entitled to either a replacement or refund! It sucks that you need to jump through that hoop, but that is the risk you take to get in on the madness at the beginning. It's part of the zeitgeist.

@rorie: It's gonna look like Netflix, isn't it? Man, I don't need any more encouragement to binge watch all this content!

@tothenines: You are not less of an adult. Voting with your wallet is smart, but I think the argument of stop putting x in my y just doesn't work anymore. Everything is mixing like a big melting pot.

@nasher27: That is a great example and goes to show how these two podcasts have completely different target audiences. Vinny and Austin were a great combo, but Austin isn't any less of an intellectual who is looking to make games better, games criticism better and maybe the world better. I have no doubt that Vinny also is doing this, but in his own way. Again, different folk and different strokes. I commend waypoint for trying to talk about games in a way I haven't heard before (I am not going to say they are doing anything new, I don't know that, but it's refreshing criticism with perspectives I am not used to hearing). You have to remember as well that media is going to react to the world, and this is exactly what they are doing.

I do think, despite the quotes you pulled, that the waypoint radio podcast is still a happy place. They are speaking about potentially troubling things, but also talking about games and their weeks and their personal lives. It's more of an even mix than what folks here might be used to, which is usually 50% games and 49% jokes and anecdotes and 1% REAL TALK (not criticising this either, I fucking love the bombcast and beastcast).

@lawgamer: I am really sorry my post upset you, that was in no way my attention and unfortunately because it was posted in this forum, it looks like I was talking about people just in this forum, when in actuality I was speaking about a much wider audience (pretty much everyone and everywhere). The reason I brought it up on Giant Bomb was because it was already mentioned and, like you, I have had a day of looking at the state of the world and I have come to the conclusion "I can't be quiet anymore, I have to say...something otherwise I am going to burst!" I have felt, up until fairly recently, that politics was very unfashionable and as such the working and lower classes have ignored it. Now we are in a time where that is turning, which was the point of my post in that "people need to grow up". You are 100% right that this kind of language is inflammatory and patronising. It's meant to be, and again I am sorry it upset you as it did. Please don't apologise for your country either, everywhere is filled with good and bad people. I remember when Brexit happened (I am in the UK) and suddenly I felt like a racist and all sorts of bad because of the way the vote went. However I stopped feeling guilty and instead got angry at the lies and propaganda produced by both sides which resulted in a incredibly poor outcome.

As for the waypoint and Austin stuff, I think that they are all voicing and fighting for their political beliefs, which all line up, but what makes them not an "echo chamber" is that each message comes from a different background, a different perspective. We see the same message but spelled out in a minority way, a straight white dad way, a gay way and a bunch of other ways from all the different writers. That's what they are, they are one message but different voices. It's not an echo chamber, it's harmony. (also, I want to point out that Austin, Patrick and Danielle should not just be reduced down to these very simple statements, but I am trying and failing to be brief).

Austin; look you aren't going to hear argument from me that Austin + Vinny might have been my favourite time at Giant Bomb since before Ryan passed. I still smile when I imagine Austin just yelling "Vinny!!" whenever Vinny does.... a Vinny. But I do disagree that he is somehow a weaker voice or personality or whatever the fuck these people are without Vinny being there as some kind of foil. He is as strong as a part as they were a whole, for me at least.

Ok, I will apologise one last time for winding you up in the way I did. Look, have that drink, it sounds like you've earned it and just know that some fucking prat in the UK is also having a drink and toasting to you and to all of you right.... about.... now.

Anyway, this should probably get back to be on topic. Feel free to PM me lest a mod come down and lock this shit.

As a subscriber, I just want to point out that I have no complaints about the content nor the quantity of it. Also, there is just SO much to go back to, recently I've been going back to old classic Ryan Quick Look videos to cheer myself up. I know this isn't an ideal answer, but as others have pointed out (and as you may have noticed from recent quick looks) everyone is scrapping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to games to cover.

Also, I want to point out that, in my opinion, people who can't deal with politics in what they watch and enjoy need to grow up. I believe we live in a world now where every person has an obligation to get informed and get involved to better their lives and the lives of people they represent. Politics, now more than ever I think, is touching everything and (I am not sure if people have noticed) it's also getting really heavy handed.

If you want politic free content, you should go subscribe to 13 year olds on youtube who have no fucking clue what is going on in the world. The content here is produced by men and women who are effected by what is going on, and they should be free to comment on it.

People are clinging onto the idea where politics was its own side hobby that we left to the "asshole snivily kid" to study while we do our "video games and comics and movies and sports". I don't think we live in that world anymore.

I think not talking about politics and telling people to "keep it to themselves" is what has caused the world to enter the political landscape it's now in, and to people who are worried about this, we want to change that.

Also Austin Walker and waypoint is still great and I do NOT understand any of the Austin hate. That guy hasn't changed one bit, he just doesn't have Vinny standing next to him anymore..?
