wingedlegionary: Best of 2009

  • Left me utterly breathless by the end, fantastic gameplay supported by a great cast and dialogue really made this the perfect package of the year for me. That''s without even touching upon the dynamic multiplayer that kept me up weekend after weekend.

  • Finally, a licensed game that managed to encapsulate and realise the world it's set in! Clearly a labour of love, it's amazing polish blew me away start to finish. Hopefully they sort out the boss battles in the sequel!

  • Although I held fond memories of Assassin's Creed, it inarguably had it's flaws. Luckily Ubisoft learnt from their mistakes and crafted a true masterpiece. I found the setting of Renaissance Italy to be particularly enthralling and found a rich world full of things to fend off the repetition that plagued the first.

  • The game I played last in 2009 is sure to last me through 2010. If you can overlook some of the terrible textures [at least on the console versions] the fantasy created takes the already wonderful Tolkien-esque world and adds a few interesting twists in the relations between races and classes. The storyline is simply sublime and truly dynamic, showing how Bioware have really honed their skills in creating engrossing fiction while keeping some of the choices morally ambiguous.

  • flower, although an enjoyable game, was an experience, as pretentious as it may sound. It was a refreshing change of pace from the killing and looting prevalent in most modern games, and felt like a validation of argument for videogames being art.
