Been listening to TLOP for the past day and it seems pretty good to me. It feels like the conclusion to the cycle that started with 808, like an aggregation of his past 3 albums into one, which has the consequence of not feeling so fresh or so unique.
That said, it's the most "open" of his work, it feels like an unfinished piece, something that can still be worked on, changed, transformed. Kanye might as well been working on the album Saturday night (if he wasn't indeed doing just that). It's better put on the pitchfork review: "the album plays like Kanye might still be remixing it furiously in your headphones while you listen. (...) unfinished album, full of asterisks and corrections and footnotes."
But these are just early days. It's openness means that TLOP can sound differently and have a different impact a week from now or a year from now and my opinions and relation with it will undoubtedly change as well.
