Withdrew $3100 to pay some people, requested $2000 in $20s, with the band. Gangsta shit. http://t.co/HG7T6lZHBg

While checking the mall *LAST WEEK* for a copy of DiRT 2 for PS3 (Vapourware apparently) some friends and I decided to check in the Walmart...

Which is where we found this sick little deal:

Don't all get up at once!

Anyone else seen any crazy game things going on at Walmart?
Posted by xyzygy

Not only is the game almost 5 years old, it's the ORIGINAL Xbox version. Priceless.

Posted by Silenthitz2

Not at Walmart, but at a department store chain called David Jones here in Australia this is a common sight. It's very easy to find full price GBA, Xbox or Gamecube games in the electrical section. I always check back because I figure one day they have to have them at a massive discount!

I have to check the Zellers near where I live. I don't think their stock has been updated since the PS3 came out.

Posted by Deusoma

Someone at the local Wal-Mart must have thought the Reign of Fire tie-in game was gonna be way more popular than it was, because they had several copies of the Gamecube version on display for at least five years after the movie it was based on came out. I don't remember what they were charging for it, but I almost picked it up a couple times as a larf.

Probably because Call of Duty games never, never go on sale or get discounted, ever. CoD4 still sells for 50 or 60 dollars as well.

Posted by Bones8677

Wait, COD3 was on the original Xbox? I thought all that changed when COD2 came out!

I think Walmart might have some slight misconceptions about how video game retail works.

Call of duty 4...is...right...next...to...IT!

Shit! I hope they don't run out of copies before I can get one ^_*

yeah Myer is exactly the same.
Posted by Silenthitz2
@mrfizzy:  Yeah, Myer is pretty bad too. Both are a good shot if you're looking for "rare" collectors editions. For about a year after Halo 3's release there were at least 2 Cat Helmet copies available at David Jones Bourke St Mall.  Myer's tends to be better at discounting older titles more quickly, but both still run their gaming sections like circus clowns.

`That's pretty much any non video game specific store around here. They are always like $20-$30 over priced on everything. No one updates the prices with time.

That said, I did check the bargain bin at a local walmart a few weeks back and got Eternal Sonata for the PS3 $20, Bayonetta for PS3 $20 and a semi rare PS2 RPG Rogue Galaxy for only $10. Not a bad haul for $50 if I do say so myself.

While true with pretty much every activision game, Steam has had the original MW on sale for $20 during the last few x-mas sales iirc.

dude you found an original xbox games at retail...I would totally pay 50 dollars for that!!

Posted by DougQuaid

They're only trying to pass the savings on to you!

I'm actually kind of surprised that it's a "T" rated game.

'Online Enabled'. Not any more.

That must be what makes it worth the $50!

Well, it is the sequel to Modern Warfare 2.

My guess would be the electronics manager noticed a bunch of CoD3 stock sitting in the back and figured they might be able to sucker some mom's into buying that one for their kids for xmas when they look at their list and see "Call of Duty" on it.  I've no idea how competitive departments are to meet their margins and such in Walmart, but I wouldn't put such a scheme past em. I've seen worse happen in grocery stores.

Or maybe it's not so sinister and they really are just stupid. *shrugs*

For the longest time my Shopko had a copy of Titan Quest for $50.  I seen they finally got rid of it.

Once went to a Gamestop, where Saints Row was cheaper new, than used.

I haven't been to Walmart in a long time.

Retailers are gonna be screwed once digital distribution on consoles comes in full swing.

Not when Microsoft wants $30 for Rainbow Six: Vegas on Games on Demand, a 2006 game I purchased for $7 at GameStop.

I love how it is for the 1st xbox. I didn't even know 3 (or 2, but I saw it did) came out on the 1st xbox.

That was the last game that Greg Kasavin reviewed before leaving Gamespot.

That will be the day when you can emulate them and the game companies won't give two shits because of how old they are.

No way, they'll always try to milk more money out of popular games by reselling them on a newer console.  Think how many final fantasy and mario remakes/ports there have been.  Then again, these fps's will probably have zero nostalgia value when better ones are on the market.
Posted by Grilledcheez

I guess I should start taking pictures of the stupid video game deals I see...they have like 50 copies of Pariah at my local walmart for I think close to $30.

Maybe they just forgot about them and haven't marked the price down? That happened to me in GameStop before.

How about Doom? The Quake games? Half-Life?

That's a lot of exceptions.

Three games that all cost 2 dollars during a steam sale?  Yeah people must be crazy nostalgic for these to be paying that much.
Edited by Jeust

While not at Wallmart or even in the US, I find in retail  incredible prices for Xbox 360's jrpgs.  Games like Infinite Undiscovery at 40$, Last Remnant at 60$, Tales of Vesperia at 60$...

Where are this guys getting the prices? O_o

Posted by VilhelmNielsen
@Levio: No matter what the price is, nostalgia is prevalent.
Posted by Getz

Shit, and I thought the 30 dollar asking price on Games on Demand was offensive.
