Top 10 games of 2012

My Top 10 games from 2012

List items

  • I never would’ve expected a racing game to be GOTY. Forza Horizon wasn’t even on my radar until the demo went up on Xbox Live and I was blown away. The game just looks outstanding. I have found myself just driving around Colorado in awe at the detail Playground games put into this title. A decent single player experience and a fun multiplayer plus the new well done rally expansion make this my game of the year.

  • 343 Industries had a monolith of a task in front of them when they took on the task of Halo 4. Bringing back Master Chief after 5 years could have backfired drastically, thankfully they handled themselves well. Despite falling back on some old ideas from the previous games they went for a more personal focused story surrounding Chief and Cortana. I may be slightly deeper in the Halo fiction than some but the ending really hit with me. Spartan Ops has been a fun experiment that seems to have succeeded well. The multiplayer is still pretty fun yet at the moment seems to have some balancing issues.

  • The first Resident Evil game out of three that came out this year and it is the best by far. The story was still pretty stupid but the handling of the game was well done. This is the evolution of RE5 the game play is still familiar but it adds just enough to enhance how you handle combat situations. The games raid mode is the best part of this package by allowing you take on mission and level up your characters and adds some decent replay value.

  • I loved the style and world of the Syndicate reboot. The nice bright clean art design looked so slick. The story was pretty flat but the game play made up for it. The shooting was smooth and all you’re hacking abilities being assigned to one button kept the action fast paced. The co-op maps were very fun and it is a shame that the game didn’t perform to well.

  • Ok I didn’t hate FF XIII as much as some people. My main issue was the linearity of it. XIII-2 fixed a few of the issues I had. The story is still pretty rough but the side quests and being able to explore made it more enjoyable. The game kept the fun battle system from XIII and capturing monster for your party was pretty neat.

  • It’s more Borderlands, more fun quests, more great guns and a pretty good story, at this point though I haven’t finished it due to all the bugs that had been discovered but I am ready to jump back to Pandora and shoot more stuff.

  • Ok I am no fighting game master or anything like that, I just like playing them casually. I have been a fan of Dead or Alive since I got DOA2 cheap and it is a series I have followed since. So I was pumped when this was announced. The game and characters looked amazing and included an insane story mode similar to the one in DOA:Dimensions and was very well done. This is a game that you can just set up with some friends and just have a blast.

  • Like many other people I was prepared to right this game off. However I found the demo fun and had some spare credit for my local store so I picked it up. This may just be me but I haven’t seen any other modern military shooters go third person instead of chasing the Call of Duty train. Spec Ops starts of seeming very generic and unforgettable but as the story progresses you find yourself interested in where they are taking the story and has a great ending.

  • Back when I heard of this title and the fact it was being headed by the creator of the Yakuza series had me pretty hyped up for this. I liked the setting and the characters were well developed. On the gameplay side it was pretty fun and the boss designs were incredible. The voice command system is a nice fun gimmick that you’ll get some kicks out off for about an hour or so.

  • Despite some of the issues with the ending Mass effect 3 is still a great game. Even if it was a little bit to convenient how every single piece of story you had experienced was wrapped up with a nice little bow. Granted the amount of streamlining did turn Mass Effect 3 into more of a shooter than an RPG but there were still enough enjoyable moments. Also the co-op was pretty fun.
