I liked San Andreas a lot more than GTAIV.  I was pretty amazed by GTAIV when it first came out, but as time went by I began realizing that most of what I liked about the game was all flash and little substance.  But that's just my opinion.

After playing Just Cause 2 I think I'm over "sandbox" games.  At least for a little bit.  This means I'm not hyped at all for RDR, which is a shame because I normally really like the western environment.

Wow. That was unexpected. I would never have thought that X-play would give a game like this the time of day. Then again, I haven't watched them in 5 years, so maybe they changed their tune.  Good on them.

For me, when I say that a game has heart, I usually mean that the developers behind it started with a, perhaps, overly-ambitious vision of the game they wanted to make and did everything they could to make that a reality without compromising that vision.

A lot of eastern bloc games fall into this category.  They're buggy, glitchy, and often broken as hell, but you can really feel the ambition put into them.

Deadly premonition is kind of like this.  SWERY wanted to make an open-world game mixed with a survival horror game, wrapped around one giant homage to Twin Peaks.  It would have been a decent premise if there was any kind of budget behind it.  But there wasn't.  So what did SWERY do? Instead of dumbing down his idea, he just did it anyway.  DP tries really, really hard (oftentimes too hard) to be what SWERY wanted it to be.  He didn't compromise his vision.  That's heart if I've ever seen it.

I prefer Old Nier, and I like the fact that he's not hot.  The man's been through the wringer, and you can tell just by looking at his face.  It also seems to fit with the game's tone better than some typical JRPG teenage protagonist would.  I don't know what cavia's original idea for the story was going to be, for all we know, old man Nier could have been the one they wanted to make from the start. I wouldn't doubt it, since it seems like something they would do.

I'm surprised a higher percentage of people didn't pirate it.

It's perhaps the easiest set of games to pirate ever made, since there's no need to look for torrents or cracks.  No hassle. Just following a link.  I respect the fact that they went this route, though.  They understand that a lot of people are going to get their hands on their software without paying, and while they aren't exactly stoked about it, at least they aren't making it a hassle for those who contribute to play these awesome games.

It's just the reality of the situation.  It's easy to download, so it's easy to pirate.  There's always going to be people who prefer to get their stuff for free, and there's also going to be underage kids who don't want to bother asking their parents to use their credit cards.  It sucks, yeah, but what can you do?  The only way to completely prevent PC piracy is to stop making PC games.

Also, your thread opener is horrible.  Acting like all PC gamers pirated the bundle when the article clearly says that 75% of the people who downloaded the games paid for them. Tsk tsk.

I'd wait a while, then show that save to my friends and win the bet.

But seriously, I could never erase a pokemon save game. It's probably because when I was little, my cousin erased my save that had 142 pokemon on it. I was sulking for days.  A truly traumatizing experience for any kid my age, for sure.  I still haven't forgiven him.

I TOLD HIM NOT TO SAVE! NOT TO SAVE!!!!!!!!!!!

@ColMirage:   When I say "flop" I mean purely in the sense that SOE obviously didn't get the gains they wanted from it, and the fact that I don't see any publisher trying to strike it rich by tapping into that kind of game any time soon.   We're talking about the evolution of games here, and I'm pretty sure publishers see that style of MMOFPS as wholly impractical at this point.  Especially considering that modern-day multiplayer FPS games already incorporate much of what makes MMOs addicting, like a leveling system and the ability to customize your gear and loadout.  I just don't see any budget going behind an effort to make another game like Planetside.

@ProfessorEss:   You mean like Planetside, or WWII Online?  Both flops.  I suppose it could be done well, but only in a heavily-instanced, "this is a battleground, fight here for x # of hours, and the side that gets the most wins will take the territory" kind of way. It would probably have to have MW2-esque gameplay mechanics in order to sustain a playerbase, since tactical shooters have pretty much gone out of style by now.  The problem with having an open world MMOFPS is that most people who play FPS games online want as little downtime as possible, and with a large world, travel time would probably be longer than they could tolerate.  Not to mention latency issues and the probability of a monthly fee.
