I think it's quite telling that they are including MW4 with this game - the fanbase is diluted each year and this inclusion is clearly designed to get people to buy it just for MW4, or at least that is intended as a pretty big hook. Nostalgia is a powerful motivator. Infinite Warfare is such a depressing title though.

I found Metroid Prime terrifying. The isolation, oppressive atmosphere and some of the enemy designs all conspired to scare the pants off me. Got to the Sheegoth boss and couldn't take any more. Oddly enough, I completed 2 and 3 without any issues.

Christ, I feel sad all over again just reading this topic.

Lol, finishing with 'be nice in the comments' after writing such a childish, empty and ultimately lonely tantrum is the cherry on the cake here. I respect anyone willing to put their thoughts to paper, but your general tone as well as the petulance of your argument means that this will be the first and last piece of yours that I read.

Was that kind enough?

Your intentions are kind, OP, but I think it's important to move on meaningfully. This topic actually made me wonder how many people have come to the site after Ryan's time, and have next to no knowledge about who he was or the impact he had. Whilst this is indeed sad for those of us who were exposed to Ryan's intelligence and wit for so many years, it's the nature of life that we just keep going.

I will say this, I find it really strange whenever the subject of death comes up in the Bombcast, either jokingly or not, because I can't help thinking of Ryan at those times...like whenever Jeff says something like 'who cares? We'll all be dead by then anyway!', I think 'one of you is already...' That strikes a discordant note in my belly for some reason every time it happens.

Genuine question, just curious. I've been a subscriber since they started offering it, because I like the site a great deal and it's far and away the best podcast I listen to. But this year I've let my subscription lapse because I just don't spend that much time on the site, and find much of the content, and I'm sorry to say this, pretty boring and not engaging in the least. I can't remember the last time I watched a Quick Look past three minutes, and even stuff which is great, like Metal Gear Scanlon, I just can't find the time to watch so many hours of it.

Anyway, how much content do you all watch, are you sacrificing anything else in favour of it, and do you find it genuinely entertaining? I ask the last question because I just tried to tune into the BLLSL and find it pretty dry stuff.

I watched the Quick Look and it kinda turned me off. I love me some twin-stick shooters, but the brutal difficulty combined with the friendly fire tips this game into 'not fun' which not is what I come to games for. I've come to appreciate that for others, the challenge is the draw, hence the rise of rogue-likes in recent years, but although I'm not indifferent to difficulty, I like to at least enjoy the experience. Even in the QL, each of them only last a few minutes at a time and that just seems to be a recipe for frustration to me.

In a wider context, this is part of a trend of games with a near-vertical difficulty curve, and it's a trend I don't really understand and hope starts to fade soon. I think for me now it's the fact that I'm older with a family; the more limited your gaming time, the less inclined you are to stick at something hoping to 'figure it out' (Demon's Souls, Binding of Isaac), or get good at it (Rogue Legacy, Spelunky). I have a blog post in me somewhere entitled 'In Defence of Handholding'. I should sit down and just knock it out.

Vent by all means, but your argument is as hollow as your anger.

I haven't kept up with his stuff because I don't like Kotaku at all. Granted, I haven't been to it for years, but my memories are of it being the same stories every other site was running, padded out with games articles that wouldn't look out of place in the Daily Mail. I took him off my Twitter as well, after something he posted which turned me off him a little more. He is smart and articulate, and thinks about videogames as a wider medium in ways which few others do, but like other people in this thread, I wonder if Kotaku is the place for him, really.
