Should Vegeta be considered a friend to Nappa considering he blew him up in the end? I didn't see him shed any tears for his old mentor...

The Prince of all Saiyans, Vegeta is an incredibly strong elite Saiyan warrior. In his constant struggle to surpass his eternal rival Goku, he has become one of the most powerful fighters in the universe.
Are Nappa and Vegeta friends?
It wasn't really Saiyan culture to have friends it seemed.
Vegeta kind of changed though, I mean what he did in the Buu saga, knocking Trunks and Goten unconcious to sacrifice himself was that changing point for him, as he said he learnt love. So before that, he did not know love, so couldn't have realised friendship and that'd probably be across all Saiyan's frame of minds so Nappa probably didn't consider Vegeta a friend either.
Vegeta and Nappa could have possibly been friends. However, the saiyans believed in the 'only the strong survive' philosophy, and since Nappa had just been torn apart by a reborn Goku, Vegeta thought that Nappa was too weak to deserve to live.
Vegeta and Nappa could be considered friends by the standards of the Saiyan culture though. What defines friends to our culture is different than this barbaric culture of warriors. Vegeta could have easily thought at that point in the story that he was doing Nappa a favor by killing him after he was shamed by being beaten by Goku. It's hard to tell, but I think we could consider them friends, if nothing else on a very BASIC level.
ReTarDedFisHy was never sure about the relationship between Vegeta and Nappa. Never considered them as friends, but more as "partners in "crime" or lack thereof. Saiyans believed that only the strongest survive, and since Nappa got whooped by Goku, maybe it was just a send-off.

I know you said warrior culture is barbaric but is Saiyan culture? The act of going from world to world, evaluating a culture, testing them physically, destroying the weak and allowing the strong to continue into the ranks of Vegeta's father and later Freiza's father seems advanced for a barbaric culture. Evaluation in the same regard would mean Vegeta is naturally superior to Nappa, being royal blood, he is the default stronger warrior, he held Goku in such small regard; he would've seen Nappa in similar low regard, Goku's brother, Raditz, was also held in such low regard. Goku was a 'lower class warrior' and if Saiyan culture was blood/heritage based then Radditz was also a low class warrior. Friendship is a basis of trust and respect as an equal, there was no equal to the Prince of Saiyans and so friendship could never have been a connection between Vegeta and Nappa, a hierarchy of order was in place. Vegeta was the superior, by blood and Nappa was the inferior, by blood.
I think that had Nappa worn any shorter or tighter plastic fantastic, full body thermal Pajamas, they could have been very special friends indeed.
As it stands, his death put bald people back 20 years.
And Vegeta was a bit criminally insane for most of the series of DBZ, so 'm gonna say no.
"Azteris said:I don't know what you're talking about as far as evaluating a planet, eliminating the weak (which is still killing possibly innocent people), and then allowing the rest in the ranks. You make it sound so cheerful and great for them. I'm sure it was much closer to a "Well, you could come with us and work for me for the rest of your life, or I could just kill you right now". From all the footage of the Saiyans as a whole, they were a crude barbaric race of warriors. Also mind you, that Vegeta referred to Saiyans as a warrior race many times. This is why Raditz was so astounded to find Goku how he is, so carefree and lighthearted."Vegeta and Nappa could be considered friends by the standards of the Saiyan culture though. Vegeta could be considered Nappa's friend, but the sayian culture has the philosophy that only the strong live. Vegeta found Nappa weak, and killed him, but never mentioned anything of a broken friendship. Also, Vegeta has quite a quick temper, so he usually acts without thinking.
Vegeta straight up killed Nappa in his face. Twice.
And it's not like he does that to everyone. He has respect for Goku, Trunks, the humans, etc. But Nappa he just iced in cold blood in DBZ, and then again later on. Gotta be enemies.
They were never friends. At first they were just two bad dudes killing people around the galaxy. Vegeta didn't care for him cuz bad dudes dont really have friends. Then Vegeta becomes good so he kills him again cuz nappa is a bad dude for life lol
ya they were friends, and nappa was an awesome character. He took on the Z-fighters and demolished them. I wouldn't have given nappa the credit if i didn't love him so much in http://www.youtube.com/user/teamfourstar?blend=1&ob=4
I would say they are not. Yeah mentor maybe but he just happens to be the other saiyan with him. Vegeta also didn't like him because he wasn't as smart and didn't know how to fight besides using brute force. But this brings up the idea that Saiyans are not a particularly friendly or family oriented race. Sure there are father son relationships but the way vegeta is with Trunks may not be unique to him. You see how King Vegeta is willing to kill a baby Brolly even though he could be the one to free them from Frieza. The whole Bardock thing seemed like it was trying to portray him as a good father but he didn't even like Goku because he thought he was weak. The only friend Vegeta could ever really have is Goku, no one else. He loves Bulma because she is like him, a spoiled kid who doesn't answer to anyone.
