The best of the Giant Bombcast from 2009 (6 and a half hours)

No Caption Provided

We at This Year produce podcast best-ofs. We cover a lot of different podcast genres, and one of those genres is gaming podcasts. And we return today to the Giant Bombcast. Previously we've done best-ofs for the 2008 and 2011 year of the Bombcast, and this best-of slots right in between those. Ryan, Jeff, Vinny and Brad have stories to tell as they sample Swedish candy and Canadian sodas. Jeff attempts to defend the PSP Go! before the crew discuss the games they’ve been playing—Vinny is accused of being a freeloader as he refuses to report his length to girl in Noby Noby Boy—and muse on the news of the day. Jeff endorses a novelty pair of night-vision goggles leading Ryan and Vinny to place a wager on an upcoming video game. The crew is thrown by Nintendo’s output for DSiWare, and the show closes with emails on a variety of topics, including talk about movies, Snoop Dogg, colorblindness, and sitting in the shower. Also included are highlights from the special E3 broadcasts.

You can download the MP3 directly here or subscribe to our RSS feed. Also, follow us on Twitter and Facebook to receive news about upcoming episodes and a whole lot of other jazz. Thanks for listening!

@ZanzibarBreeze: Yea I have to imagine it's a lot of work. Podcasts can be extremely subjective I've found and the ones I love are ones others hate, or ones that are objectively 'good' are not really itneresting to me or others. It all seems to come down to how you personally connect to the hosts, and THEN whether they produce good content or not.

That said here's one of the few quick segments I could grab from youtube from Stop Podcasting Yourself.

Also, how do you actually do all this massive work. I mean I assume you just start listening to all of these podcasts one by one, but how do you mark parts in each episode and keep it all in track. Crazy hard work I assume, or very well organised.

I'll write those two down. We take timestamps while listening, but the hardest work is retrieving the clips out of each episode; it takes a hell of a long time.

I started listening to the This Year stuff but had stopped because it was doing mostly none game related podcasts (I tend to only listen to game stuff, that or maxfun podcasts) so I dropped the This Year feed a while back but I'm glad to see some content I wanna listen to again. The job you guy(s) do is incredible and I know I'd prolly enjoy the other episodes but I just find it tiresome if I'm not already interested in the podcast already, or if it's adam carolla...

You guys are so good at this. Your work with the Hot Spot was so awesome and comprehensive that I think I understood what Jeff meant to everyone when he left the show and it was emotional. Since then, I've been looking forward to everything you guys put out so keep it up!

@ZanzibarBreeze:

The bombcast ones. When you get to 2010 could you also edit them all into one file? Maybe upload them to youtube or something. Either way can't wait for those and great job on the ones you do.

Love your casts even and hope to see more 8 hour craziness in the future but could you do one thing for all of us? Could you compile all the nintendo downloads segments? Somehow no one made one yet and only some of them are on youtube. Maybe as a bonus episode or something? Either way, great work! Keep it up! Get those to a 10 hour mark someday!

Do you mean Jeff's Nintendownload X-Press podcast? If so, then we did a small best-of for it at the very end of the 2011 best-of.

If you mean the general new releases segments that were once on the Bombcast, then most of those happened in 2010, and we'll get to them eventually. :)

You guys might want to check out our other stuff that we've done. Honestly, I recommend us to people all the time when they have long commutes to work or have to catch a flight or something. It's a perfect time killer, especially if you don't have a lot of other podcasts to listen to. Probably my favorite episode we've done is a best-of of Q1 2001 for Loveline; I also recommend our best-of for the first year of This American Life, 1995 (practically nobody has heard those old episodes of TAL, and they're really good). We've also done some very popular gaming podcast stuff. I think overall we have, like, 20 days worth of listening material or something insane like that. So if you're like me and you listen to podcasts while playing games (specifically sports or driving games) then these things are perfect.

The Leigh Alexander part makes her sound sympathetic. It sounded like the swedes were ganging up on her.

She is still a twat but still.

@ZanzibarBreeze: Who did that graphic design?

Do you mean the cover art? I did this series. I just muck around and do whatever pleases me with that stuff; I don't know if it actually looks good or not. I had a friend help me out with the previous cover design we had (the mostly white design), and I really like that style, but I eventually get bored with it and want to change it up. Here's our different graphics we've had since our start in January 2011; not that anybody really cares. :P

That Leigh Alexander stuff was certainly interesting. I remember how funny it was that she started dropping some salient points but then immediately dug several holes for herself around them.

Then the second year she was just blasted. 2010 will be funny.

Ah man this is awesome, enjoyed listening to the whole John Vignocchi bit where he was talking about hanging out with a basketball star on an airplane, that was Chauncey Billups though right? He outed the player when he said Rip, though who knows. Anywho still funny.

Oh man when these show up it's always a great day. I'm sick in bed with a fever/cough/sore-throat, and like magic, a new "this year" has arrived. Thanks for the hard work piecing these together. I look forward to donating a few bucks as soon as I can.

Been there heard all that no reason to go back. 'best of'? Why bother? If people havn't heard it already they should either be shot or go back and listen to them in good time, no such thing as 'best of' it's all great and it's all on this site
