I agree free speech is important, but why should it not be free speech in your real name when did free speech in anonimity become everyones right. if you truly believe in what you are saying you should put your name to it / stand by it

Free speech and anominity on the internet are important factors when there are people trying to fight against regimes who commit atrocities.

If every identity can be tagged and tracked all the time then that gives opressive regimes ways to track disobedient people wherever they are.

Although anonimity can be used for wrong purposes (like harassment and death threats) it also gives people ways to organize which wouldnt be possible if we all could be identified on internet.

A frightening statement followed by an incredibly reasoned one. It gives me hope!

not really a "frightening statement" mate you see i agree free speech is vital and important just like the right to protest and vote for your government but social media sites like twitter need to do more to identify and ban nuisance posters who harass and bully and ruin peoples lives because they can post with anonimity

Anonymity is not the issue. The issue is a certain percentage of our society is comprised of sociopaths (Both men and women). Revealing their names accomplishes absolutely nothing. As one user already pointed out, just visit Youtube. You will see endless comments of racism/sexism/hate speech, coming from people who are using their real First/Last names.

well anonymity or not i think the one thing we can agree on is these people are jerks, and will hopefully be dealt with by the police and we can all get back to reality and just play god damn video games?

Anonymity lets too much stuff like this happen. Almost makes you want to force everyone to have an internet license.

This is such a terrible scary idea. I don't know if you are serious, I really hope you aren't. Never advocate for something that might lead to internet censorship.

I know they already do something like this in South Korea (mandatory real-identity internet usernames). I'm not sure how well it works there, but it sure seems like real-name Facebook commenting sites aren't really much better. Many of the sociopathic bullies aren't deterred, and the people with minority viewpoints (or afraid of employment repercussions) are made even more shy.

That's why it's so scary. Anonymity is a powerful tool that despots, dictatorships, tyrants, all around bad people hate. Free speech is important, I don't think many in here realize how slippery of a slope the world is on.

I game on pc normally at 1440p but honestly framerate is key 720p is fine as long as framerate is smooth. 60 fps really makes a difference but only when its a solid consistent 60 fps is it constantly jumps from 30 to 60 id lock it at 30fps

It was saints row 3 that made me switch from xbox 360 to pc it looked fine on the xbox but it ran like shit but that was only having seen it run on a pc there was no going back for me

Thanks @patrickklepek great article. As some one who enjoys games for what they are (light entertainment), i rarley delve into games "politics", in fact until this article i hadn't really heard of Gamergate i had heard of some rather distasteful business with developer Zoe Quinn but not read to much on the subject, how ever i honestly can not believe that people would stoop so low as this kind of harassment, I'm sure twitter and other social media sites should be held responsible to provide the authorities help to bring these lowlifes to justice. maybe the problem here is annonimity would people act the same if you had to post under your real name, what if these social media sites would require proof of identity before registering (credit or debit cards, passport), and then you can only post with under your real name would people act the same if everyone knew who they were or would they still act like mindless animals.

I'm sure most of us have been here, the most important thing now is to keep busy and stay with friends or family, go out and enjoy yourself and if you see her out and about act like your okay and not desperate (even if you are) you will never win a woman back by begging or acting helpless you need to be strong, but trust me duder a new girl WILL come along and make all this a distant memory you just have to get over this Hard patch and you will.
