Best of 2013

2013 was an interesting year for me in games. It was my last year in uni and with the fear of failing, I didn't really play many games but the onslaught of Dota2 kept veering its head over all my studies.

  • Yep. An insanely addictive game that brings the lowest lows and the highest highs. I didn't get to play too much of it, instead opting to read a lot about it on Reddit - somehow I felt that was a better investment of my time. But there was a ton of great games to be had, a memorable one at a friend's birthday where we played 6 games straight and won 5. Good times. I can foresee a lot more of Dota2 in the future.

  • I'm pretty sure I played this in 2013 after seeing the amazing Quick Look with Ryan and Patrick. Goddamn is it an amazing game with an amazing soundtrack. These are the types of games I love the most - difficult, fast, amazing soundtrack.

  • Goddamn, what a game. I hesitate to call this a game because it's really the story that pulls you in and the game is as minimalistic as you can imagine. Playing it with my brother and deliberating between the choices was a really fun time.

  • Man, what a fun game. It's so ridiculously over the top, and surprisingly I found the combat really enjoyable. Apparently the DLC was really awesome, but I fell asleep as my brother watched it on YouTube. I should watch that DLC again sometime soon!

  • What a surprisingly intricate game. There's a lot of fun psychology going around with this game. I would've lived the round transitions to be a little bit faster, but it's a damn fun game. Jefailey is God-tier by the way.

  • For whatever reason, XIV really drew me in initially with it's world and characters. it reinvigorated this dormant Final Fantasy nostalgia that I had many years ago. After reading a lot about it, I finally convinced a mate of mine to join me in my quest to just mess around. We didn't really take this game seriously and for good reason - there's so much of the usual FF wankery that frankly I'm pretty tired of it. The class/job system is kind of interesting and the gameplay, for an MMO at least, is serviceable.

  • ... I know, this is the 3rd time I've attempted to play this and I still haven't finished this 4 years later. I'll have it finished by next year, I swear.

  • Yeah, I wasn't a fan of this game. Pretentious, boring, annoying. Redoing everything was just tedious.
