1. Black & White
This game gets a lot of heat for being overrated and disappointing, but I loved it despite knowing there is some truth to that. The creature AI was pretty impressive, and still is to some extent. And the game had a fun user community. |

2. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
Probably the most replayable MGS. Sneaking through the jungle is just plain fun. Easily the most memorable characters in any game ever - The Boss, The Cobras, Young Ocelot - and each one is a blast to fight. Plus, the ladder. |

3. Quake II
I played through the single player campaign countless times, and then I played multiplayer even more. And that was on a dial-up modem as well. HPB for life dawg. q2dm1! RA2! Ohhhhh... the good old days. |

4. Doom
Actually, to be more accurate this should be Doom (Shareware), because that was the version I played the most. I did eventually receive The Ultimate Doom for a birthday but I had been playing Doom shareware nonstop for a couple years before that. I could probably play through the first couple levels blindfolded. |

5. Super Mario Bros.
I played this game a few times at friends' houses, but I could never convince my parents to buy a NES. I did eventually get a SNES. And on that system I had Super Mario All-Stars. Which contained Super Mario Bros. And a few other games I guess. But most importantly, Super Mario Bros. |

6. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
I remember the first time I played this game, it was on a store kiosk. I was totally thrown off by how different it was from every Mario game before it. I didn't really get into it until years later, through the magic of emulation. It's an amazing game. |

7. Half-Life 2
Valve are masters of first-person storytelling, and Half-Life 2 was the culmination of their talents. Episode Two has a tighter pace and more polish, but personally I think the few rough edges add character to the original Half-Life 2. Plus there's the nostalgia factor. |

8. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
I did enjoy the single player game but what really puts San Andreas on my All-Time Favorites list is the Multi-Theft Auto mod (and to a lesser extent the SA-MP mod) for the PC version. The insanity of 50+ people running/driving/flying around the huge world is an experience that hasn't been replicated anywhere else. Add on top of that the Trackmania-inspired race tracks made with an in-game editor and you've got yourself a memorable game. |
