Xbox 360 Games

Despite having a ton of amazing games, the actual list of exclusive games for the 360 is super disappointing. As someone who likes owning multiple systems based on the sort of identity their exclusives net them, its a bummer. There are the Halo games, Gears, and Rare's offerings, but outside of that there's just a few strange JRPGs, a ton of garbage Kinect games, and racing games I don't actually care about.

Don't get me wrong, its a great system, and there's a lot going for it. Its just that its identity is limited beyond "runs a lot of games better than a PS3 does, but not as good as a PC".

1. Alice: Madness Returns

This game is secretly a 3D platformer, and while there wasn't much competition, its definitely one of the best ones on the 360. Struggling between her terrible life in the slums of England and the nightmarish beauty of her imagination, Alice deals with a lot of heavy shit. The game suffers from some serious padding, but it tells a really unique story and has a lot of impressive visual design to support it.
2. Asura's Wrath

Asura makes Kratos look like a reasonable individual, you level galactic fleets of ships, meteors, a pantheon of gods, and Super Omega Gold Buddha. Definitely worth experiencing at least once.
3. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Its a great game, and is also the only non Metroid Prime 3D Metroidvania.

5. Bayonetta

Bayonetta is everything I wanted from DMC4 and is one of my favorite games of all time. Easy to learn combat with a truly high skill ceiling, loads of creative enemies and bosses, a gorgeous art style, and an exciting and likeable lead character have cemented this as an all time classic.

One of the most creatively ambitious games I've ever played. Equal parts Shakespeare and Heavy Metal in tone, its a great setting with a loveable cast of characters. While its mashup of open world hack n' slash with straight up RTS skirmishes proved divisive, the game exudes enough love and personality to make me recommend it to everyone who will listen.
A sequel would be too good for our dark world.
8. Condemned: Criminal Origins

Kessler and Lemon's series sold me on this game. You get to taser people and beat up crazy druggies with lead pipes. Its a very solid spooky game with a moody and foreboding atmosphere.
9. The Darkness

Been a hot minute since I've played this, but its a very stylish, quasi-open game about killing the mafia that betrayed you with cool demon powers. Plus, you can watch full movies on in-game tvs. Its a weird game.

Easily my favorite of the "Large Men Yelling" genre of cover shooters. The art direction mirrors the story telling, bleak, but with pockets of color and hope. Clay Carmine is a good lad.

I think about this game far more than I probably should, its on a weekly basis at this point. Nothing about it is all that spectacular, but there's just something so fascinating about the whole thing. It had a rather protracted and troubled development schedule, resulting in the closure of at least one studio, its got a butt metal soundtrack, its a revival of a simplistic franchise built on stolen aesthetics and quarter munching, and your protagonist wears jorts. It feels like a recipe for failure.
Yet, somehow, its a pretty damn good game. The combat, and the associated kill animations, are a bit undercooked and repetitive, but it still feels good to play. The art direction is stellar, leaning full tilt into the strange and gorey. You get gorilla monsters, haunted amusement parks, some Eldritch Horrors, and even a goddamn Wicker Man. Its a beautiful nightmare wherein you smash the undead and Jim Cummings taunts you all the while. Again, our timeline is too dark for such a game to get a sequel it so richly deserves.
