I feel like the pay-for-beta phenomenon is a lot like the dot-com bubble. There's an incentive to focus on creating early buzz and getting a bunch of people to invest in the potential you tell them this thing has, and an actual finished product becomes less of a priority.

I feel like if the coffee was left out at room temperature, there's probably some nastiness going on and I won't drink it. If it stayed hot in the coffee machine, it'll probably be stale and burnt but I won't fear for my health.

Mayo is horrifying and gross and just the smell makes my stomach turn.

I like the whole "cold open" thing; like you say, it's just different. It's just kind of weird and jarring after years of that familiar "HEY FOLKS" etc.
