It's starting to sound like activision is attempting to usurp control over the CoD franchise even though it's technically still at least some what owned by IW.  IW works under contracts for Activision, and when that contract ends, I suspect long legal battles to ensue over who gets to control the CoD franchise.  The IW bosses may have objected to these plans Activision made concerning the future of their involvement in CoD.  Perhaps IW was attempting to NOT renew their contract in October.

My guess on this is basically Activision wanted IW to whore out the franchise with as many sequels and spin offs as possible.  The two boss-men were getting in the way, citing such things as creative integrity, the dev time vs quality ratio, and maintaining creative control over the franchise that they helped to create.  They probably also wanted to keep as much CoD development as they could in the hands of the IW devs to ensure that their franchise doesn't get raped by outside dev teams.

Basically they were getting in Activisions way.  With the bosses gone they can plant whatever puppet they want in control and farm out the franchise to 20 different dev teams so they can completely saturate the market with Call of Duty until there's nothing left but a dryed up husk that's been milked for all it's worth.  Then they'll fire every employee involved in CoD, hold a conference where they question whether or not they should have bought DICE instead, and move on to capturing, sucking dry, and discarding the next game dev ignorant enough to get involved.

The biggest problem is that the mass market isn't gonna really know any of this.  I can only hope the IW bosses get as much of their dev team as they can to quit Infinity Ward and go make another studio.  Reminds me of some website from a while back...

 I support the IWNET stuff 100%.  It sounds fantastic, and I AM a hardcore PC gamer and have been for years.  MW1's online system sucked cock.

Found out a friend of mine was gay years ago.  He didn't want anyone else to know, and he didn't even know I knew.  Took about 6 months for it to fully come out, and it wasn't me who broke the news.  It was no big deal, I didn't care, and I still don't.  Neither did anyone else in our circle.  People can no more control their sexuality as they can the color of their skin or how tall they grow or what have you.  It's just the way they are.  Has no effect on me, and any fears of "omg he's gonna ask me out" never entered my mind as it's a totally immature thing to think about.  Besides, he likes tight, young, lithe, well dressed Asians.... and I am none of those things...

@Begemot:

That's basically the story that westwood wrote.  They alluded to the Scrin (unnamed at the time) many times.  EA took what they had and expanded upon it.

CnC3 was a big let down for me.  They really raped the canon in that game.  It was a huge step backwards.  The factions didn't feel right at all.  It was like it all progressed backwards.  Mechs, Energy beam shooting giant walking tanks, and all that jazz from GDI from Tib Sun, and in CnC3 they are back to using...tracked tanks and the like?  The atmosphere sucked, too.  TibSun felt like a futuristic, techno/industrial post-apocalyptic tale of war in a world that is being torn apart by the spread of tiberium and tiberium based lifeforms, ion storms, meteor showers, and mutation.  CnC 3 had almost none of that.  They got the basic idea across that, yes, the world is in a bad state, but it felt really NOTHING like the atmosphere you'd remember from Tibsun and Firestorm.

The soundtrack SUCKED MAJOR BALLS and any CnC fan would know the soundtracks of those games are very important.  They realized this and made the ST for RA3 really incredible.

Nod soldiers got turned into dudes with hoodies until you unlocked higher tier stuff.  The whole deal with infantry coming in squads was annoying, and they missed the mark a lot when it came to the progression of technology the factions would have seemed to have taken since TibSun and Firestorm.  They also almost entirely got rid of the mutants and changed Tiberium itself into some lame crystalyne structure instead of plant-life.  It also took about 8 patches to get that game to a state of relative balance....long after it was dead.

It was a huge stumbling block for them and I think they learned a lot about the CnC fanbase and how important canon is to them.

And thank god they did because Red Alert 3 was an amazing game that did that side of the franchise a  lot of justice.  It was also a pretty well balanced game and had a kick-ass soundtrack.

With the lessons they learned from CnC3, their success in RA3, and their experience now making games a lot more balanced, I'm looking forward to this game quite a bit.

I really wish they would localize the PS3 NA version, release it, and THEN worry about the 360... I don't want to wait.

If anyone is having trouble with the controls go into options and set it for type A.  Those are the most like RE4 if you're used to those.
