As mentioned by other people a few times the short storys in lost odyssey were excellent and most of them were downers..
I stopped reading those pretty early because some of those stories were long as hell. The only one i remember is about the little girl at the inn, and yeah it was a downer for sure.

Lost Odyssey is one of the best JRPG's out there, it's really well written and just has fantastic character development. Really rare for a JRPG.

Also have to say it's nice to see Reach get some attention. Bungie weren't the greatest developers in the world for fleshing out their characters and most of the deaths were pretty ham fisted, but Kat's completely came out of no where and left the rest of the team visibly shaking for the remainder of the game. Can't give them enough credit for that.

I beat Lost Odyssey, the story was great the idea of being immortal is always portrayed as being an awesome thing, but they showed how lonely it can be.  however i got really tired of reading Kaims dream sequences so i stopped doing that pretty early in the game. Also i thought the two kids in the game were really annoying and the character costumes were ridiculous.

@zombie2011: It's just that once a day she mentions something about when "she had cancer", and it feels like a really weird subject for me to elaborate on sometimes.
I would dump her ass! I hate people like that. It's great you beat cancer, don't drink anymore, lost a lot of weight, etc. but i don't want to hear about i every fucking day.

...

You just compared beating Cancer with weight loss. For real?

Yep. And shinigami420 thinks it's hilarious when people lose family members to cancer.
I wasn't comparing losing weight to Cancer, i was giving an example of people who accomplished something and don't stop talking about it. Read again retards.

These are great, haven't played either of them i can't believe i forgot about Limbo. I've been thinking about getting Demons Souls since it came out but, it seems like such a frustrating game.

So i decided to play Shadow of the Colossus and just finished it for the second time, what i didn't remember about the game was how depressing the ending was. **Spoilers** The part where Wander  is being sucked into the pool, and he's just trying to reach out for the girl was really touching. So that got me in the mood to play some more games with a somber tone, the first thing that came to mind was Mass Effect the music on the ship after you have choose who lives Kaiden or Ashley is amazing and so sad.

However, that is the only somber part of the game so that wasn't going to cut it.  Then Halo: Reach came to mind and this is probably the best example of a game with a somber tone i've played. During the game you are seeing everyone around you die your planet being destroyed and from the moment you start the game there is just a sense of hopelessness that doesn't lift the entire game. Unlike most games you never get the sense that you can win the fight, the team knows it's a suicide mission but they just keep on going because there is nothing else they can do. Also the music in this game is probably some of the best in a video
game, and captures the mood of every scene perfectly. I want to play more games like this, here is a great scene from the game, probably my favorite scene in a game especially the end shot.

Recommend me some games like this if you can, games that have a dark tone throughout the entire game or an amazing scene that just changes the mood of the game like ME or RDR. Not horror games Dead Space and Amnesia are not what i'm looking for. I don't play many games so chances are i haven't played the game you've mentioned.
