I miss blades...

Remember when the xbox dashboard used to look like this?

Those were the days. We didn't have Party chat or anything fancy like that, what we had was blades and I loved 'em. Everything you would ever want was just a few hits of the bumper buttons away. I would pay money to be able to change my dashboard back to this. Playing Gears 1 just isn't the same with the new dashboard, and with another update coming soon it will be even weirder.

Anybody feel the same way? or am I just a nostalgic fool?

I tried fixing my old Xbox one day and got it to boot up and when I saw this for a split second I was like "WTF is this?" and then remembered the old blades. The new one is much better though and the next version should hopefully be faster but I do kinda miss it kinda brings be back to playing Oblivion and COD 2.

I don't understand why people are so nostalgic to the blades. I never found them to be THAT amazing.

It's very nostalgic of a time where the XBLA cap was 50mb, the Xbox only did component output for 720p and gamerscore was actually a competitive thing.

Giant Bomb had a similar trip down memory lane:

I wouldn't have minded what they changed it to so long as it wasn't so sluggish. They couldn't manage that, hopefully the next update will.

Blades live on via the guide button, and I probably use the guide button and subsequent menu more than any other.

It certainly had an unique style to it.
I loved how the color was different per background! xD
Can't say I dislike the current dashboard tho, except for the multitudes of menu's.

The good ol days. I kind of miss them. But seeing it now i realize how ugly it looks now. But I don't like the current dashboard, too many extra panels that I don't need.

I guess it's the same reason people are nostalgic to anything. They aren't that great compared to what there is today, but when they first came out and when you first used them it was crazy.

I still miss the blades too. I honestly considered not updating my 360 around the time when they were first rolling out the stuff, but then I realized that there was too much downloadable stuff that I wanted.

I miss the blades as well.
I find the NXE to be awkward and cumbersome, and actually de-motivates me to play anything on my 360.

I didn't have to look at any ads the entire time I had the blades.  I suppose that's something to miss.

I miss that the blades-style-dashboard didn't start us on marketplace content  When they added the marketplace blade everyone freaked out and Microsoft promised that they would never have users start on marketplace content... then the NXE came out and *gasp* it starts me on marketplace ads.  Then Microsoft said they wouldn't do any ads that were annoying or intrusive; now we have video ads *sigh*.

Fuck the blades.

*scratches head* I do believe the xbox always did up to 1080i on component...

I liked Blades, I also like how there wasn't any lag on the dashboard.

I am one of the few that prefers the NXE, I just think it looks sleeker, runs faster, and the new guide button menu doesn't take half an hour to load and take up the entire left side of my screen which was annoying. The NXE is just easier to navigate for me.

I liked the blades but overall i thing the current dashboard looks a lot cleaner and more organized.  I don't why people complain that it's too slow, i find it's really fast scrolling through each channel.

I guess. But I never felt that attached to them to begin with, although I only had an xbox with blades for maybe a year or two before they rolled out NXE.

I prefer the new way. Sorry blades.

Those blades were pretty cool.  It would be nice to be able to go back to them, but have them updated with all the new stuff that's with LIVE right now.

I like when they change up the system. After the NXE update, it kind of felt like I had a whole new console, except for the part where it's not.

It was nice, but I thought it was a bit too crowded.

I miss the hell out of them. Too much lag now for my taste. Plus I miss that big ass, one third of your screen, metallic guide that would pop out of the side. I still think that that was pretty cool. NXE is much more functional and all, I just kind of wish it was optional. I'd love to be able to connect to XBL and have the original dashboard and guide running.

Fuck blades, I want this -

@JoeyIA: GAWD YES.

Now navigating a tweaked, slightly more immersive, 3D version of that with Kinect would be GREAT and probably fulfill my Minority Report wet dreams.

I kind of agree. I get the feeling the NXE was better optimised. But I'd have the blades. I prefer the styling. The in-game dash was a little sluggish but it had all of your stuff on one page, not friends on one, media on another etc. You could also customise the colour of it which I really missed when  they updated it.

How similar is the XMB to the NXE?
Cause the PS3 has always used the XMB, and only made a few tweaks to it. If they are similar, I should like the NXE more than the blades.
It could be because I don't like a massive overhaul on a UI that I have grown accustomed to. So I'm automatically biased against the new UI.

Plus, I'm still not a fan of the XBL avatars.
