    History

Morpheus marks PlayStation's second venture into virtual reality, the first one being the PUD-J5A headset for the PlayStation 2 which was released in Japan in 2002.

    Hardware

At the Games Developers Conference 2015, Sony unveiled a prototype codenamed Morpheus. Features included the display having an OLED 1920 x 1080 pixel display and capable of displaying content at 120fps, a field of view of 100°, stereoscopic 3D, six degrees of freedom head-tracking and unwarped output to a TV which would show what the headset sees or a separate display to compete against the headset wearer in certain games.

Later on it was revealed there would be three rendering modes, two being native at 90 Hz and 120 Hz, another is 60 Hz that would be displayed at 120 Hz using asynchronous reprojection. Asynchronous Reprojection is a motion interpolation technique which can achieve a small latency of under 18 milliseconds with little system resources.

In the final shipping box of PlayStation VR was the headset, a processing unit, VR headset connection cable, HDMI cable, USB cable, stereo headphones, power cord and adapter.

    Launch Lineup

When launched the PlayStation VR came with a demo which had different games which varied by country. This lineup includes standalone games (e.g. Headmaster) and games that had already been released and updated or had extra content created specifically for VR.
