Disney has shut down Propganda games :(

#1 Edited by StutteringBilly (40 posts) -

Disney has shut down Propaganda games, it should be popping up on gaming sites any minute now. I had amazing experience working at Prop and hope everyone laid off land on their feet.

If this is true, that sucks. First cancelling that Pirates game, and now this. Good luck to all the people left unemployed because of this (if this turns out to be true).

i thought Tron Evolution was pretty good......

shame !

Not terribly surprising after what they did in October. Seems like they were just waiting for the game to go gold before laying off the people left.

As someone that was laid off this past December, I offer my condolences to the people at Propaganda.  I hope the people this affects are able to find new work sooner rather than later.

And nobody listens to me when I say Disney, like the rest of the movie studios, is just on board for the money and not actual video game making...

This sucks, good luck to all the employees on their future en devours.

It's not like Disney is the one developing the games and guess what, publishers in charge of the money shut down smaller studios when the games they make don't do so hot.

You can only do so much with the '08 Turok game and Tron: Evolution.  Armada of the Damned was their one legitimately exciting project which is the true sad story that it got canceled.

Yeah but you live in a fantasy world where people make million seller mainstream games like COD Black Ops because they're passionate about their art.

Damn shame.  Being one of those few dozen that loved the Turok reboot.  LOVED.

Damn man. Have you and Nick and Simon figured out where you're going to hang for the day?

Sorry to hear about this. Wish everyone finds gainful employment soon.

Isn't this where John "Freelance Troublemaker" V. worked? I'm almost positive it was.

I think he's just a general Disney PR guy.

Johnny V works directly for Disney Interactive.
#16 Posted by StutteringBilly (40 posts) -
@The_Joker:  He works for Disney PR in California. Propaganda was a Vancouver, BC based company

Turok was disappointing, Tron was... a movie game.

This news doesn't suprise me.

Okay, okay, I admit it. Nobody is making video games for the sole reason of making video games. Everybody is just out there for profits and to please share holders. Yes, I understand now that the video game industry is no different than the music, film, or television production. Just mass producing product to stimulate the mind and keep it busy.

Poor one out for Johnny V!

EDIT: Or is Johnny owned by Disney?

#24 Posted by StutteringBilly (40 posts) -
@dexterslu: Johnny I'm sure is fine. He works for Disney in California. Propaganda was a Vancouver based company, had no internal PR people.

Dude, that is awful. It always sucks when you see game devs get killed off.

Ok.....? DAMN, I can't play another Tron or Turok game!

Shame they lost their jobs though.

Poor Johnny V...

Well this sucks, sure I din't think Tron was all that great but good talented people losing their job is never cool.

well I mean their work being not great is an odd statement. Even AAA games that we might see as bad still have a lot of fully functional work that went into them, some programmer may be incredible at his job but because of someone way higher up making upper level changes the guy still loses his job. That's the real tragedy about all of this.
#31 Posted by EuanDewar (5100 posts) -
@beej:
I didn't mean to offend the work the guys did, Im sure they are all a great team of talented fun guys but when I say their work wasn't great I specifically meant I didn't enjoy Tron: Evolution. I'll edit my comment to make it clearer.
#32 Posted by beej (1674 posts) -
@EuanDewar: Oh I didn't think you meant that at all. I was just pointing out why it's super sad when developers shut down.
#33 Posted by StutteringBilly (40 posts) -

This picture was on a fellow ex propaganda's facebook back

:( this saddens me, they really had some smart ideas there, they just needed a bit more time to shine.
