Prototype arrived ridding a wave of hype, but does it deliver its promises or does instead drown in them? The game tells the story of man, Alex Mercer, awaking in the morgue, with no memories, and a question on his mind:"Who did this to me?"In the meantime, Manhattan is put under quarantine by the regular army and a unknown military outfit, called the Blackwatch Special Forces, due to a misterious virus that spread within the city, turning its citizens into disfigured zombies. Are the two related...
[Prototype] is the type of game that I love to borrow. There are moments when you are scaling sky-scrapers, destroying tanks, hijacking helicopters, and you feel like an elite, über antihero. And there are moments when you have to do lame repetitive missions and totally suspend your disbelief to swallow the video game-iness of the experience. Bottom line if I haven't caught you attention with these first few sentences, this game is a two week treasure. Play it. It's great. But don't expect to ...
Radical Entertainment's Prototype is bags of fun. The game clearly identifies itself as a Jack-of-all-Trades, which means that if you enjoy open-world games, you're almost guaranteed to find something you like in here. The downside is that Prototype may have over-stretched itself, because while there are many aspects to the gameplay, they all lack a certain degree of polish. However, if you're looking to have some wild and mindless fun, Prototype will certainly appease. Alex Mercer w...
I hate myself for finishing Prototype. I really do. Here was a game that was begging not to be played, in spite of the time (presumably) normal people spent designing the game’s dozens and dozens of incoherent video cutscenes, recording hours of voice work and crafting numerous story-specific missions. No, I think the people at Radical Entertainment mock anyone that makes an attempt at completing Prototype’s storyline, as opposed to just playing the game the way it was meant to be played. Prot...
Alex Mercer is having a bad day. After waking up on the wrong side of a morgue table, he can't remember who or even what he is and everyone wants him dead. It's a good thing that he has super-strength and a never-ending array of shape-shifting abilities to help him fight back. As Alex, you must find out who turned you into this monstrosity and seek retribution. *Never not angry*Alex v/s ManhattanAt its core, Prototype is essentially the same game as ...
If Prototype seems familiar to you, don't be surprised. Anyone who played last generation's The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (also developed by Radical Entertainment) will immediately recognize most of Prototype's key mechanics, as many of them are ripped, unchanged, straight from The Hulk. While the core action was great fun last gen, Radical seems to have recognized that the industry has moved on since then. In order to differentiate Prototype from its predecessor, shape shifting abil...
To make this Review quick ima relate it to another game(I think prototype is a crazy version of grand theft auto) Yes you could roam around NYC with these crazy weapons you have on yourself all the weapons have something special for a special time. This is a must be played game if you want to have some fun. Their are some neat tricks you can do like take over a persons form. jumping from roof to roof(my personal fave) It is a crazy game you just can't stop playing. A must go get game NOW!...
I beat Prototype yesterday on Normal difficulty. I ended up playing for another hour afterwards, and then started over in New Game +. As you can see, I really enjoy this game, but it's not for everyone. Prototype is a free world, action/adventure game developed by Radical Entertainment, which is just another way of saying "If you liked The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, you might like this game." It also has many attributes found in Spider-Man 2. At the very beginning, you watch...
Prototype came into the world alongside the PS3 exclusive InFamous, which, upon first impressions, looked like basically the same game, but better. I'm going to get out the way early that I have not played one second of InFamous, and therefore this is the last time I will refer to it in this review. This game is, like so many games of the current generation, a whole lot of things we've seen before, put together in a somewhat unique way. When I first turned this game on, my first impression wa...
Picked this game up yesterday on the way home from work. I haven't completed the game yet but intend to. From what i've played so far, I know what to expect from the rest of the game. The story is decent. I'm actually kind of curious as to how the pieces of the puzzle line up with regard to what happened here so the developers did a good job on sort of drip feeding you the story. I feel it's still too early on in the game for it all to make sense yet but i'm hoping it all comes together in th...
I've waited for this game for a few years now, and I picked it up as soon as I could. I'm now 3 hours into it and I'm awestruck. While it's true that the graphics aren't top notch, the gameplay, combat, and sheer scope of the game is entirely worthy of many merits. I don't understand why people wouldn't like this game. Sure, it's just like inFamous, but I don't have a PS3 and therefore am not able to play it. I think this is a worthy substitute to satisfy my craving for an overpowered super-pers...
Radical Entertainments last game was Hulk:Ultimate Destruction, it was a criminally underplayed game that had you playing the Incredible Hulk in a GTA style open world, the game gave you a dynamically changing world and a nigh on invincible character to destroy it as.In Prototype these elements are expanded upon as this time Radical Are not restricted by a license, they have created their own Anti-Hero Character in the form of Alex Mercer, the Prototype.Mercer is able to Alter his genetic code t...
I hated this game. There. That's it. I said it. Let me elaborate on this.First, the good things about the game. The story is not bad. It is enjoyable, makes somewhat sense. It is interesting enough to drive you. You want to know about Alex Mercer's past and you want to know what kind of a crazy madness thing is tearing the New York City apart. Also, having lots of powers adds lots of layers to the game. Because you use so many different kinds of powers and you upgrade them pretty much through the...

If your looking for a ultra-violent, bloody, and over all shape-shifting game help Alex J Murphy..... Excuse me Alex Mercer find out what has become of him, look no futher than Prototype. The Game starts off with a really cool cut screen, almost as good as Wolverine Origins (who didnt love that cut scene), and then throw you start into the "war" as we will call it, Between the Infected and the Military. I wont ruin the rest for you. The Games overall feel is just pure over the top action, ...
Prototype was seen by many, as the 360's answer for inFAMOUS. With both released the similarities can be compared and the differences can certaintly be noticable.Prototype is a sandbox super-hero game but thats all that it has in common with inFAMOUS.The game nails of lot of OMGWTF moments perfectly and for the first few hours you'll find yourself being consumed yourself with the pad being firmly super-glued to your hands. Soon enough however, the gorey smokescreen subsides to reveal a surprisin...
For not finding its trappings in a comic book legacy, Prototype certaintly earns points for being an original title in which you don the hoodie of the amnesiac superhero/villain Alex Mercer. But Prototype Isn't just trying to be original with its intriguing use of the Manhattan setting but also goes out of its way to provide an over-the-top and extremely chaotic sandbox experience in which you get to use a vast variety of different powers and undertake a ton of missions and extracurricular side-...
So... Prototype... Prototype is another open-world game where you play as a sadistic weaponized super-virus in a city during a vicious outbreak of some unknown contaminate(aka swine-flu) that consumes everything it touches and seems to have a mind of it's own. Staring a new protagonist Alex Mercer you'll be able to slice, dice, and impale your way to find those who made you this way and quite literally tear them apart limb from limb. Along the way of course you'll run into a few obstacles to ...
I expected this game to be more polished. Did anyone else play The Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction? Its close enough to just being a re-skin of that game. Even the button layout is similar and most of the moves are the same. They just added more gore for no reason and more stuff to blow up. They even call one ability Critical Mass! THAT WAS IN THE HULK GAME! And it did the same thing. Look Prototype is fun, but you have to get used to holding the run button down, jumping, floating, pickin...
Its interesting when you can make a game like prototype, but it suffers from horrible lack of polish, and seems undone. The game was designed well, the story was there, gameplay, unfortunately the graphics and overall presentation of this game falls to be near a fail. The frame rate on this is horrible, and there's just too many pop ups, and it makes the world of Prototype look ugly, not that it isn't with the war in the city, but you know... it doesn't work. Prototype has a huge city, and it ne...
First of all let me just say this isn't your ordinary sandbox game. Many people probably will compare it to Infamous but to be honest this game is so much better in so many ways, from the graphics to the game play every moment is beautiful. The frame rate is spot on, rarely do i ever see it lag at all, unlike that game mass effect.... what was up with that. But definately prototype is worth playing, even if you just rent it from block busters, or gamefly.-Brendon ...
Prototype is game some people will love and some people will hate it all depends on the reason you are playing the game. If your are playing Prototype for an orginal story and and ground breaking gameplay i'll save you some time and tell you its a rent. If you looking to play prototype because you love the idea of cruisng around a sandbox nyc with a kickass super hero who combines some well known superpowers with his own unique twist to them to cause want and destruction you came to the right ga...
look beyond the sometimes iffy visual quality (especially any cut-scenes with a certain sister; those eyes are so dead, she must be infected too), and you'll find a game that truly gives you the visceral experience of being a super-powered being. Most of the MARVEL characters that have made it to the big screen in the past couple of years are represented by proxy here: Spider-man (Black costume version), Hulk, Wolverine, even the Punisher makes an appearance here. Though the best ability is what...
Gona be pretty straight forward about this review. PROS: - Alex Mercer is a total bamf who spares no one. - Shape-shifting powers are awesome to use, original, very destructive, and give you a great sense of power. - Fast paced combat and Alex's moves flow nicely.- Running and jumping around the city with Alex is fast and fun. Fighting zombies and soldiers is even better.- Story keeps you interested. Web of Intrigue opens up a nice variety of story background when you absorb the memories of th...
I am loving it. My only complaint is the punishing difficulty. I had to restart my game a third of the way through so that I could change the difficultly to easy, but then again maybe I just suck. In typical third person fashion the camera is your most difficult enemy. The variety in the game is almost overwhelming, I still haven't figured out which combat strategy is best against which enemy. Even with its problems I can't wait to play the last 5 missions of the game. ...
game looks really fun. shapeshifting, consuming, destroying stuff, and open world. everything a game can ask for. i really want to get this game. and infamous. i dont see what the big deal is about. prototype and infamous are two totally diffrent games. stop seeing wich is better....
Imagine yourself waking up on top of an operating table in a morgue with no recollection of how you got there and the next thing you know, you possess some of the deadliest powers ever imagined. The game Prototype makes you walk, run, and super jump miles in Alex Mercer's shoes. Right off the bat, Prototype tries to make that right first impression by letting you sample a few of the many powers you get to play around with later on at the very start of the game. In this introduction, I noticed, c...
This game is completely insane. If you enjoy just making complete mayhem and killing everything in sight then this is the game for you. There are way too many powers for anyone to be able to use or remember to use, but this is not a bad thing. There are so many ways to destroy and massacre anything in your way that you wont be able to do it through there first play through. The only fault with the game that I found was that it could get to hectic at times. there could be helicopter, infected, a...
With more and more open world and sandbox games coming out, gamers know what works and does not work when using it. Prototype is the newest game using an open world setting and the formula it developed for it’s story and gameplay is what makes it a correct answer for gamers to enjoy. The game starts with the main character introducing himself as Alex Mercer and you also see the city which happens to be NYC. Something happened to cause the city to be infected with something and he too has somethi...
It can't be easy to be a chased superhero with no memory, in a New York ruined by a virus mutating people into monsters. Luckilly for Alex Mercer, he's a little bit more lucky. He might've lost his memory, and he might've gotten the virus, but in difference to all other New Yorkers he got superpowers. With his extraordinary strength, he can change into the shape of whoever he eats, and as he is super heavy as well, he got no problems destroying tanks with single jumps. He can grow weapons out of ...
The first thing that came to my mind when I got past the intro level on [PROTOTYPE] was that it reminded me of Ultimate Spiderman on the PS2. The jumping over buildings, absorbing people, collecting landmark tokens. Which is great, because I have spent hours just free-roaming New York on Ultimate Spiderman. I have no idea why, but swinging between buildings used to relax me. This is probably the first reason why this game is so good. It’s fun to just run over a building and jump to the next. O...
Prototype is a 3rd person action game based in Manhattan. You'll be playing the part of Alex Mercer, an individual that wakes up one morning and can't remember his past. To get to the bottom of it he's going to have to find and rely on others, as well as massacre soldiers, innocent bystanders, and the infected. As the game progresses your powers will increase, and as they increase your chances of finding out the truth increase. The graphics for this game at first look stunning. It isn't until you...
"Protype" is one of those games that is really hard to determine an opinion on, of whether or not it is good, great, superb, okay, etc. Here are the two things that make it so hard; the game has a rather mediocore & poorly fleshed out story (though there are some exceptions with the web of intrigue), but at the same time, it has got to have some of the most exciting, exhilerating, and versatile gameplay that I've ever expierenced in a videogame. I've never had so much fun with combat than I ...
First things first: Prototype and InFamous are completely different games. On the surface they look similar, and sure they both came out around the same time leading to many, many arguments on forum boards over which one is better; but I’m here to preach the truth and tell you that they couldn’t be further apart in terms of gameplay mechanics, powers, visuals and so forth. InFamous focuses more on shooting - with long-range lightning zaps - and great platforming mechanics, whereas Prototype is m...
Prototype is a guilty pleasure game. The reason you’ll return isn’t due to the story or the characters but the gameplay and the fun that’s to be had from terrorising innocent civilians or annihilating the armed forces and mutants that are attempting to hunt you down. At no moment will you stop and contemplate your actions, you know what your doing is wrong but that’s what makes it all the more satisfying. You play as Alex Mercer, a man bestowed with superhero powers as a result of a horrendous, v...
In Prototype you play as Alex Mercer, a dark shadowy figure with a hidden past. As you play through Prototype your goal is to discover who made you the powerful abomination that you are today and get your revenge on them. There are You're Alex Mercer the ultimate weapon. several ways to find clues, although the most common way is to devour enemies. Question is, is this free roaming action/RPG worth devouring?Prototype is a nice mix of free roaming action and role-playing elements. As yo...
I really enjoyed this game, far more than I expected. I have never seen a game that did so many different forms of combat so well. Melee combat, weapon combat, vehicle combat, stealth elements, upgradeable powers, it all works very well. I liked the story quite a bit as well, and its neat to see how the city changes as the game moves along. The game seemed to get quite hard toward the end, with some of it bordering on frustrating. Choppers need to be toned down a bit late game, because...
Alex Mercer wakes up in a morgue, not even able blink before men with automatic weapons begin shooting and hunting him. As far as I knows a virus have been released in New York, himself at the epicenter, granted super natural powers. Seeking his sister he begins a quest to understand, to remember who he was, his role then and now. Sounds good, huh? The mechanics of the game consists of a insane mix of different types and pacing: super power combat, gun play, stealth (not unlike Hitman), vehicle...
"My name is Alex Mercer. They call me a monster, a terrorist, and a giant strain on military funding. I destroy city blocks and thousands of innocent lives but I'm really not that bad a guy. I love my sister, apparently, because I'll kill anyone to stop her safe house from being discovered. How am I dealing with these extraordinary yet terrifying powers? Its pretty cool I guess, I'm not complaining."That about sums up the level of emotional engagement you're likely to have playing the "protagani...
What’s Hot: - Intense violence, providing a lot of satisfaction.- Huge arsenal of abilities and moves.- Lots of activities to do out with the main storyline. (i.e consume events)- Varied missions that can be completed in many ways.- Interesting storyline and protagonist.- Good voice acting and background noises.- Plenty of things to keep you busy for many hours.- The best parts from The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Crackdown all mixed together to create a great sa...
This game does some interesting things, such as telling a story from over 150 different people, or giving you the ability to take anybodies form or turn yourself into the ultimate killing machine. It's a shame that sometimes the controls don't do what you want, or that it is so hard to find all 150+ people. I beat the game in about 15 hours, and by the time I was done, I was fairly happy to stop playing. As you gain more abilities the controls just get worse. I don't know how many times I tri...
With all the free-roaming games that have been released in such a short period of time it seems like Prototype is the title with the least amount of hype between Infamous and Red Faction. At first glance Prototype seems very similar to many other super powered free-roaming games. In the end it proves itself to be very different in terms of gameplay, story. In Prototype you are Alex Mercer, a super powered freak of nature with amnesia. In many events, you wander the streets consuming other indiv...
Prototype allows you to let loose your inner beast: you can do pretty much anything to anyone in an open world sandbox called Manhattan. Results are boring at the beginning, but in time it gets more and more satisfying and brutal. FULL OF SHORT CUTSCENES Alex Mercer wakes up in a morgue and has been infected by an unknown virus. This same infection is spreading all around Manhattan and turns people into monsters. Or in Mercer’s case gives them all new super powers. Of course you as Alex has ...
It’s hard to find a fresh concept now a day’s in video games. True, you can rehash Halo until the Spartans come home, but every now and then there is a need for some degree of innovation to come our way. The need for something that is new is always a constant in video games. With that, something that is actually playable to begin with needs to be made too. While games like Dark Void and Brutal Legend are still far off at this point, a game like Prototype has, at the very least, been crea...
