Quake Live is a 'free-to-play' web browser-based FPS from id Software. It is based on the popular game Quake III Arena, and focuses solely on online multiplayer.
They've put a queue system up to deal with the heavy load of users currently hammering the server. I was originally around number 7500 in the queue, then I refreshed because the number wasn't going down. Man, that was a huge mistake.
Indeed. By the time I get through the queue, the Scout patch for TF2 will be out and thus I'll probably never play this game. But I'm interested, if only because A) I was always pretty good at Q3 and B) It's free.
It seems to be going down much faster now than it was earlier... I was at 54,000 or so about 15 minutes ago and I'm down to 32,000 now. Hopefully I actually get to play this time. Last time I went into fullscreen and my mouse wasn't working so I had to quit and start all over.
Yeah, once you get through the painful signing up process you don't have queue anymore. Been playing it for a while and I really enjoy it, it's nice to be able to play Quake 3 again with people of my skill level.
So I did the placement test twice. Won 15-9 the first time, but it didn't count it so I tried again and won 15-5 the second time but it didn't count again and now the site is offline.
I might try again a little later, but it will probably be even more slammed then.
