    The ever informative Bethblog has revealed the system requirements for RAGE that will either make you cry or sigh in relief. The requirements are;

    Minimum

    • OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Windows 7
    • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD
    • Memory: 2GB
    • HDD Space: 25GB(MEGATEXTURES!!!)
    • GPU: GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200
    Recommended
    • OS: (Exactly the same as minimum)
    • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or equivalent AMD
    • Memory: 4GB
    • HDD: 25GB(MEGATEXTURES!!!)
    • Video Card: GeForce 9800 GTX, ATi Radeon HD 5550
RAGE will use Steamworks and of course feature Steam Achievements, VOIP and Friends support.

In all honesty those are some pretty reasonable figures for a game that looks this good. Thoughts anyone?

Wow, what? ID still knows their stuff if the recommended settings actually guarantee a smooth experience. Expecting some major frames per second.

Then again it looks amazing on consoles too, I wonder if the difference between platforms stays minimal.

Well, honestly system requirements don't really mean much; there's no real standard of what 'minimum' and 'required' actually mean.

Anyway, I guess I'm tentatively interested in this game.

I won't deny that with PCs since I can run Crysis 2 at a good framerate with High settings whereas Fable 3 is a Powerpoint presentation, there's just too many variables. But hey, a yardstick of some sorts is still good to know rather then taking a gamble and it is an id game so chances are that it will run pretty smoothly on a lot of machines. I'm just more interested in a new engine then the game itself.

Sounds good to me. Wonder if there'll be a PC demo for it so we can test it ourselves.

Welcome to the world of PC games. Mine can run Fable III quite amazingly, but shit even on lowest settings on Crysis 2.

That is less then I was expecting, my old PC can run this easily. New one will dominate it.

Their engine must scale very well. Not bad for a good looking game.

I think it's sad how video game enthusiasts don't know how to distinguish how they feel about a game, from how the game really is. Yes, RAGE is looking great as a video game, I'm looking forward to buying it too, etc etc.. But graphically, it's nothing "that good", it just isn't.
Yes, aesthetically it's great, the visual design is awesome, the art is sexy, the game is superb, total GOTY, but graphically, you shouldn't be surprised that the recommended specs are so low, because the game does not look that good. It runs at 60 frames per second on a 6 year old piece of hardware, that tells you all you need to know about the id 5 engine..

All it tells me is that it's extremely well optimised compared to a lot of other engines.

@pornstorestiffi: With how good it looks on consoles still I expected such. Lets just hope it is optimized well and has the kind of settings you would expect for a pc game.

C'mon rage will be a overblown tech demo for the new engine... not a actual game.

Its a shame that ID technology fell out of favor in recent years. I remember when damned near everything ran on the Quake 3 engine. I know I will get great performance out of this game.

First game using Doom Engine 5, wow, those are lower than the Battlefield 3 reqs, lets see what looks better. But This engine is supposed to be real next gen stuff. John Fucking Carmack worked on it.

People expected this game to have high requirements? I don't understand why.  It's a current gen console engine with bigass textures that stream in. End of new features.
