One of the most important characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise, Raiden is the god of thunder and a powerful and respected fighter. He has defended Earth on numerous occasions against evil, and is responsible for recruiting the original Mortal Kombat characters.

- Raiden is inspired by the lightning based character from the film Big Trouble in Little China.
- Raiden's name originally was spelled "Rayden" due to a copyright issue with the Raiden top down shooter game series.
- Was portrayed by Christopher Lambert in the 1995 film and then by James Remar in the 1997 sequel.
- Raiden makes guest appearances in NFL Blitz, NBA Jam, and Unreal Championship 2.
