I lost interest in platformers a long time ago. Don't get me wrong. I still love the oldschool platformers like Mario and Sonic (dear lord please erase from memory games like Bubsy) but I really lost interest about the timeof Donkey Kong 64. To much back tracking, to much collecting and to much time between action. So in the following years I pretty much ignored every platform game out there.
Enter Ratchet & Clank Future. Last fall my Xbox 360 was out for repairs (curse you Red Ring of Death!) I'd been spending some quality time with my PS3. Sadly Resistance: FoM was at the tim my only non-PSN game title. As such I'd been playing a lot of demos trying to find a quality PS3 title. I decided to give R&CF:ToD a spin. To my surprise this was actually a fun title. Straight forward and fun. It's a bit on the cute side but it's done very, very well and to date is one of the best looking PS3 titles I've seen (that is until MGS4 launched ;P) . I'm really finding new found respect for Insomniac (especially after Resistance).
This lead to my seeking out the PS2 versions of Ratchet & Clank. Sadly it's almost impossible to find the original Ratchet & Clank in the used games sections unless you want beat up, ratty discs with no cases, a problem I have with EB/Gamestop but that's another post. I ended up getting Up Your Arsenal. And to my surprise I'm really enjoying this title (thank you PS3 for upscaling). I was also surpised to find that there are still a lot of people playing the multiplayer portion of this game. It just reminds me of how large the PS2 install base really is.
So now I'm on a mission to collect all the R&C games. I actually find platforming fun again. Ah, it's good to be back.
