Rave Master: Special Attack Force! is a one on one fighting game. The game uses a single regular attack button and a special attack button. The game uses a jump button rather than pressing up on the D-Pad.

Characters have a special meter that will fill while attacking the enemy. When the meter is full players can activate a special mode.

Players can also activate a small QTE style mini game which gives players a series of arrows on screen. The first player to successfully hit these directions in their correct order will win the small battle.

    Game Modes

There are five game modes and an options menu to choose from the main menu.

    Story Mode

The story mode allows players to choose one of the playable characters and play through a story. The story differs depending on which character is chosen.

In Ranking Battle players ascend up a ladder of teams. Defeating the next team above the players rank will move them up a slot.

In this mode players can purchase characters to place on their team. Before going in to a battle players choose which of their characters will go into the battle and which position they will start in.

The game takes place on a strategy style board taking turns moving their characters on a grid. Once the player or the CPU moves one of their characters into the opponent a battle will take place. These battles are the same as the one on one fights.

    Free Battle

The Free Battle mode allows players to choose both their own and their opponents characters as well as the type of fight and stage.

    Link Battle

The Link Battle allows two players to battle each other using two copies of the game, two Game Boy Advance systems, and a link cable.
