Jeff loved GTA IV to death and couldn't care less about RDR.
Brad never finished (?) GTA IV and has complained about the issues it has and said how he will never play a GTA game ever again unless they completely gut it and overhaul it for the next one, but he absolutely adores RDR. He even placed it in his #1 spot for top 10 games of the year, while I (And I'm sure many of you) would have bet their pinky that the first spot would go to Starcraft.
I thought GTA IV was a steaming pile of horseshit, and I'm absolutely loving RDR so far (I'm like...10 hours in?)
Anyone else loving one of those and hating the other?

Anyone else like Jeff or Brad?
I dislike both. :(
I tried really hard to play GTA4, and played RDR at a friend's place, however neither impresses me for one reason or another.
I'm kind of like Brad, not that I didn't get any fun out of GTA I just found the missions quite repetitive and the character's a bit unappealing. That being said I probably enjoyed playing the multiplayer of GTA more than RDR since the vehicles and weapons in that game allowed you to do more silly stuff when just messing around in the city (at least from my experience with it) than in Red Dead.
I completely fell in love with GTA4, however I finished RDR and just wasnt impressed (didnt even break my top 10 of 2010). The gameplay and story just wasnt up to normal R* standards in my opinion.
for me, it was the other way around. Couldnt stand GTAIV, but loved RDR to death (got 100% in the main game and Undead nightmare).
I liked both, but the scale tips in favor of Red Dead. They're essentially the same game if you strip them down, but I loved the story and setting of RDR.
GTA IV was also the first GTA game that I finished to completion.

Have been burned too many times on GTA / Rockstar games. I just don't like these type of games and therefore haven't even tried RDR. It could be great but I couldn't care less. I also like Jeff and Brad but like Vinnie best (who doesn't?)

Might want to fix the "couldn't".
Anyways, no. I like both GTA and Red Dead, though Red Dead has slight improvements in all areas. My favorite being that it has good checkpoints as GTA4 has none. I find it awkward how you can't swim in Red Dead Redemption though, and having John Marston say he can't swim to his son was an alright moment but I don't know if that's an acceptable excuse.

Why fix what isn't broken?
I fucking love GTAIV, but I couldn't finish RDR because I just found it kind of boring.
Maybe if it had more hookers and blow.
Red Dead is amazing but GTA4 has the same problem all GTA games have for me which is they eventually have a minssion which is so hard I never get past it and hence hate the game for not letting me get past a chase. For instance, I got decently far into GTA4 only to have to chase a dude on a motor cycle. I NEVER LEARNED HOW TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE!!!! To have my entire mission rely on this stupid bike that flips me at the lightest collision while the dude I'm after races off into the sunset or whatever is redonkulous!
I really love Red Dead though....unhealthy amounts of love
I like both also, I mean, they're both cool dudes...oh wait.
For some reason I just never got that far into GTA. I loved it, but some missions were really held up by the controls and jerkyness of the character. Sometimes I would find myself struggling to find cover, or pressing a button and not seeing a response, and that turned me off to the point I stopped playing about half way through the story.
RDR on the other hand I just finished, and I think the main reason was because the combat is a HUGE, IMMENSE improvement. Both games have killer stories, great characters, and are awesome, awesome games. The basic mechanics in RDR just made it more enjoyable for me.
The fact that they have worked out great story using GTA AND great mechanics using RDR at this point makes me ridiculously excited for LA Noire. Personally, most anticipated game of 2011 just because they seem to have nailed the formula to the wall and are applying it to their "perfect" game. Fingers crossed!
I didn't really like either.
I gave up on GTA IV because the stiff controls made it impossible to enjoy.
RDD started out well but the story was almost completely pointless about %90 of the time, it didn't really get rolling until the end of the game and by then I was ready to give up on it.
The controls in GTA IV were a gigantic turn-off for me. This is the same reason I was avoiding Red Dead Redemption. How large is the change of controls?
Tried both, but didn't really like either. I'd still go for GTA 4, though, if I really had to choose.
Team Brad on this one, though I did enjoy both of the GTA 4 expansions. I thought the gameplay was fine in GTA (loved the feel of the driving), but hated everything about the story, the characters, the structure, the pacing, the schizophrenic tone, the ending....
I don't rate RDR quite as highly as a lot of people did, but yeah, much better than GTA 4 imo.
RDR took me a while to get into, but by the end I loved everything about it.
GTA IV was another story. I had to force myself to finish that game. It just wasn't for me.
The biggest gripe I had with GTA IV was that compared to San Andreas it felt in many ways as a step back, and I didn't really think the story was that much more serious in tone than previous GTA titles.
RDR on the other hand felt fresh, hamdled nicely, looked good and had a compelling story to boot. My vote is RDR easily, even if I did have some fun with GTA IV.
