In reviews or previews I often read that in RDR money would be more of a problem and you wouldnt end up with half a mil like in most GTA games. But so far ive only been doing story missions, stranger missions, journal challenges and looting (when I am on foot) and already swimming in money after Armadillo. I bought every item and gun I came across and one horse deed and stil have 4000$ left.
Wondering if im just doing more side things then intended. What is the overall experience money wise?

Red Dead Redemption is the spiritual successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, featuring a vibrant, open world set in the decline of the American Wild West. Players take on the role of former outlaw John Marston, who is forced to hunt down his former gang to regain his family.
How are you on money in RDR?
i always have enough, or have enough stuff to sell to get the money i need :D and i haven't really done any real extra stuff ( did some random stuff, that don't give much $, and a few wanted posters, one small and 2 big ones , but i'v only done1 stranger story so far )
Allen :-p
I've played about 10 hours, randomly doing what I feel like doing, and I have more money than I can use.
There was a liars dice game for $200 a pop, I just played that, because that game is hella easy. Made $2k before I left for Mexico.
" Its funny how almost nobody actually reads the post to see the Op was asking if money was an issue. Nope, everybody just knee jerk answers back, I got money, just do this to get some. lols. "Well if you read the final question in the OP its "what is the overall experience moneywise?" i gave my opinion on the experience by saying what I do to get money easy. Maybe you should stop trying to be such a smartarse
I blew some money early on in poker by going all in (twice I lost high straights--a jack high and a queen high--to king high straights), so I lost a bit of money. I've always had enough, but never tons. The last time I played I did a bit of hunting along the road on the way back to Armadillo and pulled in three or four hundred dollars for just a few minutes work. So, my impression is that money is easy to come by if you put a little effort into hunting. If you don't it's tight but not all that scarce.
I don't know if it's the game's fault, or the way I play's fault but yeah, with the amount of hunting I do when I'm just goofing around, money has quickly become a non-issue.
Yeah this is always a problem with open world games, lots of money and nothing to spend it on. As I like to role play in RDR I stopped looting bodies unless I had too and spend money on maps weapons safehouses and have bought a $750 horse. I just got to mexico and they have a few expensive guns there, I drink a few shots a day and try to gamble here and there. Right now I have $65 on me which makes me happy, a cowboy shouldn't be rich.
Money isn't an issue, if you did get short then as already mentioned a couple of bounty hunts will set you back right.
Every time a wolf attacks, there's bound to be not only 2 or 3 others in it's pack, but another pack or two waiting in the wings. You essentailly get $100-150 every time you see a wolf. I don't really mind that money is a non-issue though. I play sandbox games to dick around and have fun, not to manage resources.
$1,800 dollars and I'm not even done with all the quests in Armadillo yet. Also, anyone care to tell me where I can get more guns after I have bought all the ones in Armadillo?
" $1,800 dollars and I'm not even done with all the quests in Armadillo yet. Also, anyone care to tell me where I can get more guns after I have bought all the ones in Armadillo? "I found the guns you pick up of corpses or get as part of missions are better than anything in the stores during the early parts of the game.
I haven't had a prolem with excessive money, but haven't had money shortage either. I buy everything available to me as soon as it's available, and have 150-500 after I'm done shopping.
I just loot the people I shoot, I don't pick plants(except for survivalist), I don't skin animals. I just do missions, sidemissions, and looting bodies. If you skin/pick plants you're going to have more than you need, and you'll pretty much just waste your own time.
I got arrested on 10 counts of murder and a bunch of other stuff, so $0 but I'ma a Five finer Fillet Monster and can make money pretty fast.
$0, but I just started. I was up to probably $20, but ran into some problems with the local law enforcement. Who would have thought that breaking into a safe in a small town jail with many witnesses around would be a bad idea?
I have like, 15 bucks i think. I had 68 but lost on poker.
Literally have only played the game properly for 40 minutes.
Post-game free-roam, I have about $17,000. So I'm good. Never bought anything other than weapons and houses, and later in the game started buying ammo to top off here and there after hunting trips.
The beginning was pretty scarce with money, but after a while I started getting quite a bit of it due to various things.
I'm somewhere in Mexico and I rubber band between nothing and having about a $1,000. Of course I'm just sticking to doing story missions. I'm thinking about going back and doing some bounty hunting to rack up some quick cash.
I agree, reviewers try to get out the review as fast as possible which doesn't work in an open world game. for sure they skipped a ton of stuff. Like many peeps say in here, bounty hunting gives a ton of monies when you capture them alive." @ArchScabby said:
" I got a ton of money with nothing to spend it on. "Reviewers rushed through the story. Probably alot of people do. "
So if you take the time to do some jobs money isn't an issue.
My first John Marston is being super-noble. Not hunting more than I do to level. Buying all houses. Max supplies. Quality horses. With just a touch of (mostly) successful gambling. He's usually floating around $1000.
I bet my next, outlaw John will make a lot more money.
No money issues in the game for me, either. But I am one of those oddballs that rarely if ever fast travels. EXCEPT when I'm doing story missions. Tend to do them in binges, to get them the hell out of my open-world happiness way.
Lacka' fast traveling leads me to lotta random events to gain cash. I'm usually hovering between $3000-$5000.
I've finished the game. Didn't just do story missions, did a few bounties and strangers too. Never at any point in time did i have more than $1500. The one time i had anywhere near close to that was cause of the cash from the poppycock stranger, which isn't yours anyway. So it kinda doesn't count.
Then again, i have all these hunting stuff that i havn't bothered to sell any of...
I'm rich. I have maybe 12k and already bought everything except horses (got the warhorse). But I did pretty much every bounty when it became available, and I found all the buried treasure, too. If I play through it again, I'll probably do just the story missions and be a little more strapped for cash.
