    Red Dead Redemption

Game » consists of 23 releases. Released May 18, 2010

Red Dead Redemption is the spiritual successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, featuring a vibrant, open world set in the decline of the American Wild West. Players take on the role of former outlaw John Marston, who is forced to hunt down his former gang to regain his family.

Is it me, or was the game really short? ( no spoilers )

Yeah, well i just recently beat this game and I was really glad I did, worth the $60 purchase, but I don`t know if it`s just me, but, was the game really short for you guys? I mean, i haven`t went for the platinum, and i wasn`t really distracted with all the other things to do, i spent a little time hunting and crap, but thats about it, i didn`t really bother to help strangers or anything, so it could just be me but, I feel that the main story campaign was pretty short, I didn`t spend too much time on the multiplayer, probably like 50 minutes all together, but other than that, the game just kinda flew by, is there really anything I can do besides trying the poker and all that other stuff, because I honestly wasn`t amused trying those

How long did you play for? Cause It took me maybe 20 hours to finish it. Which I feel with the 12 hour games no a days is great. And I now have over 50 hours including online and side stuff.

....I find that impossible. Unless you skip all cut scenes. And speed run it all.  As well as only fast traveling.

Then you are not playing the game. Your just speed running it.

Yeah, it took me around 40 hours to beat. Granted, I did some a lot of side quests, but 6-7 hours? That's weird.

I thought it was way too long. This "game" would have been better as a movie because it had a good story and world, but the gameplay sucked (including the online.) Metal Gear Solid games have AMAZING storylines, and yet they manage to make the gameplay not suck.

You skipped one of the best told game stories ever? Are you mad? Thats like buying a DVD and then skipping half the scenes only to complain afterwards that it was too short.

The game story is probably under 20 hours, but most people will spend around 20 just playing the game, riding around, challenges, whatever.

Also, 20 hours give or take is still way more then most games out there, so it was 60 Euro well spend in my eyes, I got a sense of accomplishment finishing it and also finishing the other stuff (still not 100%, but almost there!)

Well considering I put close to 60 hours into the game before I beat it (and before I went back to finish the 100%) I totally disagree but by sticking mostly to the story missions you really cut out a lot of fun activities that can take up way too much time.

You skipped all of the story and world exploration? Then I wouldn't say you finished the game. Plus, if you haven't done any stranger missions,

Not that it would matter, since you didn't follow any of the story and wouldn't appreciate the payoff.

@blazerx9x: There's easily over 50 hours of gameplay aside from the story.

On a side note, I've been playing it for a while and the story doesn't really interest me much. In fact,  I went ahead and read the ending description because I don't think I'm ever going to finish it.

Whoa dude, as someone who has played all the Metal Gear games (Metal Gear 1 and 2 included), and GTA and Red Dead, I have to say that I thought that Red Dead gameplay was good.  I'll give it to you, the online did majorly suck.  But I thought that the gameplay was solid at worst, and very good at best.  I've had issues with gameplay in all the Metal Gear Solid games (especially 3), except 4 (which is my 3rd favorite game of all time.)
I'm all for personal opinion, but I don't see how it sucked.  Care to elaborate?

I fast traveled almost everywhere and by the end I was saying "Damn, this game is long." Almost too long I think. You could have cut out basically the entire Mexico portion and not lost out on anything that significant.. I really thought it dragged at times.

@InfamousBIG: Did you play the Subsistence version of Snake Eater? I loved the game myself, but I'm so glad I got subsistence so I didn't have to deal with the top down camera. It was quite difficult to deal with not having the old radar like in 1 and 2.

No, you play the game again and take it all in. You do all side quests , dont fast travel everytime, and don't skip the cutscenes. It will then take you about 20 hours, probably longer depending if you play side mini games and do night watch missions.

    @SpiralStairs:
Yeah, I did actually.  I think it would have been nigh unsufferable if I had played it with top down cam.  My biggest problems were is that it tried to do so many thing that MGS4 did right, but didn't accomplish any of them very successfully.  It was kind of a larval phase, in between the primitive MGS1 and 2, and before the butterfly-next-generation MGS4.  Changing the camo manually, the shooting mechanics, so much of it just felt clunky.
Stylistically and story-wise, it's my second favorite MGS game, no question (well, I haven't played peace walker yet).  Just clumsy and adolescent in its gameplay.

You should go back and play the campaign while watching the cut-scenes. I feel that you are missing a huge part of the story when you skip those.

Yes, go invest some time in diversions. Now just think what applying this approach can do for OTHER games! The possibilities!

@SpiralStairs: That's funny, I did the exact same thing.  I played MGS1 on my PS3, went out and bought a PS2 and MGS2 and 3, and played through those all in about the space of 2 weeks.  I am currently going through my 4th MGS4 playthrough.

Why would you even play a Rockstar game if you want to skip everything and get to the end? They are known for their rich storylines, variety of characters and a huge world to explore.

How can you possibly skip the cutscenes? I'm curious...
