Quite possibly the funnest game I have played all year long. A great story with well developed characters. Instead of the normal complacency that games have fallen into Red Dead takes a great story and adds its on perks to the mix to keep you in the game for hours past the general story line. It's characters a developed at a great speed and you become attached to them and can't wait to see what's next. The multiplayer has a great dynamic and with constant improvements and patches continues to be the best multiplayer in my opinion this year. Added all together I don't see how any game can beat out Red Dead Redemption for game of the year.

Red Dead Redemption:t Game of the Year?

"Added all together I don't see how any game can beat out Red Dead Redemption for game of the year. "Mass Effect 2 and RDR are the two contenders for GOTY.
Well, all grammar and spelling mistakes aside, I agree its a great game. It has alot of competition though, and its not as cut and dry a winner as maybe Uncharted 2 was in its respective year.
For me its game of the year, but a lot of people disagree. They have the right, too, and there was alot of other great games this year. On top of that there is some potentials just coming out now and not to long from now.
I dont think this years GOTY will be an easy pick. For me it's RDR, but for others there's so many great games this year; so alot of contenders this year.
Nope, it was pretty fun but most of the characters were bad and Mexico wasn't very fun. Haven't finished the game though since I got bored of it when I got to the north eastern part of the map..
I would say red dead is a strong contender for GOTY but i put my money on mass effect 2 still. I really enjoyed Red dead but i found the middle part of the story to fall into the same problems that most GTA games have. The mission formula can be a bit tiring if you have a few GTA games under your belt. Also it has a awesome story that loses it a little by feeling a little gamey with all the string along missions of a bad guy always promising you something they never deliver, buy of course you will have to pass 5 to 6 mission before your character realize that.
" I think there's a few possible contenders. RDR, ME2, Heavy Rain, GT5. For GiantBomb, it will probably be between RDR and ME2, with Jeff pulling hard for ME2 due to his inexplicable contempt for RDR. "Loving how everyone is putting unreleased games as GOTY contenders.
" @Binman88 said:Why, who's doing that?" I think there's a few possible contenders. RDR, ME2, Heavy Rain, GT5. I put it as a possible contender. Note the word possible. The use of the word possible implies the game has a chance of being a GOTY contender, obviously depending on how the game is received upon release.
The more people talk about what should and shouldn't be game of the year probably gives critics ideas. I'm sure that's why Uncharted 2 didn't get GOTY last year on Gamspot but instead, Demon Soul's did. I'm not saying Demon Soul's didn't deserve it, I just find it hard to believe that gamespot didn't see how everyone else was giving it game of the year and they just wanted to be a little different so they chose another great game of the year. Anyways... If I think of what should realistically win instead of what I want to contend with what I think could possibly win which is Red Dead Redemption, would have to be Alan Wake.
Here are the contenders though I'm sure.
*Red Dead Redemption
*Mass Effect 2
*Super Mario Galaxy
*Halo Reach
*Starcraft 2
*Civ 5
*Bayonetta (which I doubt will win anywhere important)
Those are probably the highest viewed games of the year from the majority. I'm not saying these are all, but I think if it comes down to critic wise, these are the few to contend for the true game of the year. Personally, I think the first three I named are the top three. I don't think Halo Reach stands out well enough since it does nothing new. Both Starcraft 2 and Civ 5 may be great RTS', but I don't think it shines in the eyes of many critics as much as the top three, and Bayonetta. That may have been a great game at the start of the year, but I think it's old enough now to realize that many great games came after it and now makes it hard to really have that be the winner now. Then again, I could have said that for Windwaker but that turned out game of the year on Gamespot didn't it...?
Let's see, I loved BioShock 2 (so sue me), but obviously that game is too derivative to be considered. And as much as I will probably love Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, it's also too derivative of ACII and doesn't really push the franchise that much further. StarCraft 2 is perfect but too niche, and because I still haven't played ME2, for me it comes down to:
Red Dead Redemption, Limbo and Super Meat Boy.
Between the latter two it's a hard choice, because they're like opposite sides of the 2D spectrum, although both perfectly designed and streamlined. However it's hard to imagine an XBLA game taking the title because, well, because we all expect it to be the multi-million dollar blockbusters instead. So yeah, RDR is Game of the Year for me. Having said that I feel the need to play Mass Effect 2. And seeing as everyone agrees on ME's brilliance and Jeff has been very reluctant to even give RDR a proper try - which baffles me after hearing him praise the adult tone and immersive nature of GTA4 two years ago - it''ll probably end up being Mass Effect 2. Which in the long run, seems fair and is just fine with me.
