The TV Movie on Fox

#1 Posted by Raven9686 (58 posts) -

I want everyone who watches this to post their opinon on it. Is it just advertisment, or a masterpiece movie based on a masterpiece game. ( For the strangest reason I cannot find it on anywhere on fox.

It seems like the game, but different camera angles. Oh wait, thats all it is. Nothing too great so far

#7 Posted by FixerofDeath (321 posts) -

It seems to just be a bunch of cutscenes chopped together in a different way.

#8 Posted by Osmiles (197 posts) -

A lot of shots of john riding horses at different camera angles.

#9 Posted by Kovie (206 posts) -

Oh yeah, how do we pad out Machinima people?  That's right, we show a lot of panning shots of the environments and scenes of characters walking in the same loop.  But in this case, it's horse riding.

Yeah, this blows so far, I must say.  Every time animation from a cutscene plays, the framerate changes, so the scenes have this disjointed vibe going on.  Immediately, this wasn't a very good idea.

This is exactly what it is so far. I am not impressed.....

The story kinda jumps around. I mean I know whats going on cause I've played the game but I'm not sure you know know whats going on if you had not played it

#12 Posted by RazeEverything (116 posts) -

I dont understand why they didnt just release this online as a extended trailer. As a tv spot this just doesnt make any sense. It doesnt attempt to catch the new viewer up or establish the setting. Who is this for? Im guessing they met a guy who knew a guy and got Hillcoat to help them cut a extended trailer from cutscenes. I dont know why anyone at Fox would want to stick this on their station.

Midnight on saturday, why bother.

I love the game though, having already seen all of this doesnt help.

#13 Posted by RazeEverything (116 posts) -

I was hoping this would be a prequel or something of substance.

#14 Posted by carlthenimrod (1597 posts) -

Yeah... that was kinda dumb to watch. Ugh.

#15 Posted by Joeybagad0nutz (1438 posts) -

This was just retarded..... I was so hoping it be something better cause I love Red Dead Redemption.....
#16 Posted by ISuperGamerI (1880 posts) -

I thought this was the thing that the director of the movie The Road was working on. I don't think it's advertisement for the game.

#17 Posted by Origina1Penguin (3503 posts) -

So it's like the "movie" for Shenmue? I wasn't able to watch that. It got boring really fast.

#18 Posted by FixerofDeath (321 posts) -

Well that was just a pathetic attempt at an advertisement. I severely doubt anybody that hasn't played the game would have a clue what was happening. I was hoping there would be something to this, but it would seem as if anybody that could edit together some cutscenes could have produced something as average as this... meh.

#19 Posted by Nate (705 posts) -

shoot. i forgot and only caught the last 3 minutes. It showed the part in the game I just finished playing, but also spliced another little bit in. Not impressed.

#20 Posted by Vonocourt (2159 posts) -

That was a bummer. I was hoping that it would be like a side story about some minor character. Got some unfinished  cliffnotes version of the game's story instead. Having not played the game it just came off as disjointed and rushed.

#21 Posted by Ravenousrattler (1417 posts) -

most of it wasn't that bad, but the end where they kept switching between the old mansion and fort mercer was terrible

#22 Posted by ISuperGamerI (1880 posts) -

Maybe they rushed when they were making the movie.

#23 Posted by Moridin (717 posts) -

Eh, it was what it was. An advertisement in a "short film's" clothing.

#24 Posted by Hoagie808 (14 posts) -

yeah this was a real disappointment. it was just a bunch of cut scenes duct taped together then thrown in the garbage.

I would totally rather watch that than this.  I've seen it like three times.

I love Rockstar's cutscenes, but taking them out of the context of a video game and surrounding them with a bunch of semi-awkward looking gameplay-specific footage doesn't benefit anything.

Is there any story ruining spoilers from this? I missed out cuz time zone difference.

Machinima continues to suck.

#28 Posted by Coombs (3449 posts) -

Watching it right now,
I think it's more advertising than anything, But I have to admit it worked.  Although I have to ask, How much of the story will watching it have spoiled for me?
I'm probably going to buy this late in the summer to tide me over till New Vegas.  Of course alot of the reason I'm sure has to do with GB member praise since release,
But watching this turned it from a "maybe if I can't find anything else" to "100% getting it... at some point"

Only got to see the second part of it. Finale was just anticlimactic. It just doesn't work for anyone who beat the assault mission and expected a cinematic interpretation.

It's just an advertisement. The problem though was its timeslot which most people who would have interest was busy watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and people who knew about it and was awaiting it might have beaten that part already.

It wasn't a masterpiece but I thought it was really well done. I especially liked the how the ending came together, bill escaping and seth getting his treasure...that said, the scenes did feel disjointed in places, especially where cuts were made to the scene. The graphics looked a lot better than on the consoles I thought..

For a half-hour movie to promote the game, I thought it was pretty sweet.

Only scenes from the first fourth of the game or so, and most of the best early stuff arguably wasn't even included in this extended commercial.  If you are going to buy this game, though, I'd stay the hell away from forums that have anything to do with it.  I've already seen several threads that ruin MAJOR plot events and aren't tagged with spoiler warnings.

I think it's even worse if you've played the game.  They don't explain that John is fighting for his family, so you don't really don't care about John or understand any of his motives, and I'd say 90 percent of the damn thing was Rockstar's unedited cut scenes. At the end, they POORLY lump scenes of a fort and an old house together, and it looks like crap. I hope John Hillcoat--or whatever his name is--is happy with his paycheck, because artistically this was garbage.  A bunch of Rockstar employees directed the VAST majority of this "film" and he just stuck his name on the project.  Shameful.

If you'd like to know what happens differently--and what's in the treasure chest--in the actual game (without too many spoilers)...

I posted my optinions in the other thread but i'll sum it up here:  It was a Glorified Machinima!

I haven't played the game so i didn't really understand the story.  Obviously this was ment as an advertisment but how many people are awake at 12 in the morning?

I have to say....for someone who considers RDR one of the best games Period, that thing blew all kinds of Shit.

What i ment was how many people who, may not have played or even heard of RDR, that are watching Fox at 12 am?  The only reason i knew about this was cause i heard about it hear on GB but i don't recall Fox showing and promos of any kind for it during their regular programming.

Now that i think of it, this is somewhat similar to when Spike showed the AC: Lineage movie on Spike.  Only this used in-game cutscenes and didn't do anything to introduce you to the main character or the setting. :)
