Perfection is stopped by a few issues. 0

Red Dead was a strange situation for me, when I first heard of it I thought to myself, “really? More western games… I thought we just got over that.” But then I heard that Rockstar San Diego was giving it another go developing it, with the engine of Grand Theft Auto IV and then thought to myself, “Oh let me guess, Grand Theft Auto with horses now right?” How wrong I was. The game got me more interested as I saw the teaser videos and had more information bestowed upon me, taking the idea o...

red dead redemption is the  sequel to 2004's red dead revolver, The game star John martens, a outlaw with a past that won't let him leave behind, The game is essentially grand theft 4 meets the wild west. The rage engine has been re jigged for the wild west, with emphasis place on gun-play. The environment is absolutely huge, and wonderfully occupied by wild animals, flower, herbs and people. The world is based on the Mexican Texas border, with the rockstar spin on it. Missions draw influences f...

Red Dead Redemption: For More than a Fistful of Dollars 0

Just to make this clear: this is a Red Dead Revolver sequel, but it has none of the characters that the 2004 original did.   Red is not the protagonist, replaced by John Marston, who is, in my opinion, the most likeable protagonist Rockstar Games has ever made.   He is a scarred man, with a past that he wants to forget; the government don’t want this, though, and so they take his wife and son to make sure he gets his priorities right.   He is given the task of hunting down the members of his ...

    GTA on horses 0

I loved GTA, all of them, each one bringing something new to the series or refining existing elements. While Red Dead lacks some of the better elements of recent GTA games, for example the social interactions between characters, it brings it's own little touches to the table, starting with one of, if not the best main character in a GTA game to date, we all loved Niko Bellic,or most did, but most will like John Marston much better. On top of that it takes the action away from Liberty City which,...

The Wild West is Exhilarating 0

When I first heard about Red Dead Redemption. I thought it was going to be a disaster. Once I found out who was developing the game, I quickly invested my money into it. And I am very well pleased.            Positive:    1. One of the best stories I have ever got involved in.    2. Many twists and turns waiting to happen.    3. Much improved gameplay from GTA IV    4. Jaw-Dropping visuals    5. Massive open world to explore    6. A variety of things to do such as, play Black Jack...

    Hear Me Out 0

Hear me out is a monthly article dedicated to playing devil’s advocate for the current “it” game. It’s in no way meant to offend the game, the reviewers, fans or developers of said game.   Reddog DL - http://darklegendspodcast.podbean.com I’d like to start off by saying that I have been a huge fan of Rockstar since GTA 3, and am still a fan of them with their latest offering Red Dead Redemption. They have always been able to craft an amazing open world environment to play in, and I believe that...

GTA was great, to a point. I suppose it's because of the fact that everything was too much like what we see nowadays. Crime infested cities, hoodlums in the ghetto, and car chases. I would always find myself getting about 1/3 of the way through, then setting the controller down finding myself bored beyond belief. Well Red Dead has changed my entire perspective of sandbox style games, and my entire perception of Rockstar as a whole. Not only does the western genre feel like something rarely exper...

Saddle up and grab your revolvers: It's time to get Redemption 5

Oh my god. Rockstar have done it again. How could anyone ever have doubted them? From the developers of Grand Theft Auto and Bully comes Red Dead Redemption. This game may well be their finest creation yet. Red Dead Redemption is not so much a sequel, more a spiritual successor to Rockstar's previous wild west game: Red Dead Revolver. In Red Dead Redemption's single-player portion, you play as John Marston, a former outlaw trying to make a normal life for him and his family. But when federal age...

    Outshines GTAIV! 1

Tweet: Outshines GTAIV with it's gorgeous and free-flowing environments, simply stunning! Recommendation: BUY @ $60 (full price) Pros: . As usual with Rockstar, Story and characters are second to none, shocking ending . A living breathing world that pulls you in, very immersive . Top notch voice acting . Lots to do, you could be 15-20 hours in and still have something you haven't done yet . Improved gameplay mechanics over GTA . Mini-Games are very entertaining, played Poker for at least an hour...

Dag Nabbit! A hunned words?! I suspect I barely know dat many. But I reckon I'll giver a look see n' see what I kin muster. Firstly this game is buggier than a horse and carriage. But like the conveyance, it is elegant looking and certainly highly functional despite being recalcitrant in its clunkyness depending on operating conditions. In that respect it may be "hollow candy" but that is some right fine delicious candy. Truth be told I blame any mud slinging and slighting of most of the epic to...

    Legendary West 0

I was really excited to start playing Red Dead Redemption and I haven't been disappointed in any area except for the shitty ending of the game in the single player campaign. I won't spoil it for anyone but lets just say that it's not what you're expecting.  Anyway the campaign is enough to keep you playing for a few days especially if you want to 100% completion the single player campaign. The stranger missions (a few of them actually strange) are a good addition to the game.I do love the...

I was excited about Red Dead after being thoroughly disappointed in GTA 4.  I was hoping that it would have the same spirit as "San Andreas" or "Vice City".  But unfortunately Rockstar seemed to take a page from GTA 4, with way to simple targeting and a distinct lack of fun outside of the story mode.  Many of the set pieces and moments that take place during the story mode early in the game are repeated over and over again.  Chasing down wanted posters was fun at first but after the first few it...

    Red Dead Redemption Review 0

The old west was full of corrupt officials, greedy bandits, murderers, and petty thieves. This made living an honest life almost impossible. That is the only thing John Marston wants, a simple life on his ranch with his family. His checkered past however just won’t let him go and he is forced into a truly wild adventure. Western games are pretty few and far between. It’s a genre that only has a few bright spots like GUN and Call of Juarez. To say that Rockstar has surpassed them would ...

rockstar, [john] master[n]s of their craft 1

a game based on those old wild west movies you see on TV some times.  you play as old man mastern, a crotchety old man who is a villain, not unlike gollum from the lord of the rings movies.  mastern gets straight down to business, filetting animals like so many morning tuna, murdering woman and robbing friendly old nuns.  at one point in the game he hogtied a whole room full of people and made a big pile of them on the floor.  he then murdered them in cold blood, it was sickening to watch and pa...

    The Untameable Wild West 0

Yet again Rockstar gives us yet another instant classic. Either it be gunning down your enemy alone, or with friends Red Dead never runs out of fun. Getting bored of Hunting? How bout a game of liar's dice or a good game of poker, No matter what activities you get bored of there's always another one you can bleed into. A traveling tumble weed from Rathskeller's Fork to the hot desert of Perdido  the game provides a vast sandbox of wildlife, bandits, and the great graphics of the landscapes, be i...

"My side ain't chosen. My side was given."    Every now and then a game comes along that defines a genre. Rewrites it, if you will. There have been many attempts at the western genre in videogame history but few have succeeded to capture the essence of the old west. Enter Red Dead Redemption; It's a game that not only sets the standard in the artform of western, but raises the bar for the open world gaming genre as a whole.    Lovely sunsets and graphic violence. Everybody wins! John Marston, o...

This was the last game that I played before my Xbox 360 blew up on me :(  Rockstar knows how to deliver a AAA tittle. And I found myself immersed with this game. I spent HOURS hunting cougars, skinning bears, and shooting birds. This is a huge open world. The story is great with a really unexpected ending. I was able to complete this game at around 30 ish hours, and that's not doing everything.   Multiplayer is really fun. Don't go in expecting MW2. Team up with some friends and raid a gang hide...

    Red Dead Redemption 0

The Western genre is something that has historically not been explored often or well in corporate made games. There are a few notable exceptions here and there, but for the most part people that love gunslingers are left playing make believe with their siblings, screaming “I got you” over and over again over your brother’s un-yielding protests to the contrary. Thankfully, off of the framework of what was originally Capcoms; then Rockstars Red Dead Revolver rises Red Dead Redemption; a...

Fantastic sandbox game, set in the wild west. 0

First of all - I must admit I was looking forwards to Red Dead Redemption. I'm not a huge Grand Theft Auto/Sandbox game fan, but Rockstar has a record of doing it well. I'm particularly fond of Bully (Or Canis Canem Edit if you're in the UK.) and Grand Theft Auto 3: San Andreas. The things that make these games enjoyable to play are the sense of freedom and the strong narrative. What you can find though, is that these aspects of gameplay are not always comfortable bedfellows. When Re...

A story written in landscape format 0

It is rare these days that I buy a game on the first day of its release, since I simply don't have the time to play everything that I'm interested in (which is almost everything). When the "Life in the West" series of trailers released for Red Dead Redemption,  I saw the possibility of something special and snapped up a copy on the day of its release. I've finally had time to work my way to RDR's ending and I'm ready to deliver a verdict.  Red Dead Redemption is built on the sand-box framework t...

dedicated to a certain scorned environment artist... 0

What I found most memorable about Red Dead Redemption ("RDR") is the irresistible charm the game heaps upon the eclectic bunch of characters whose interactions underlie the majority of its missions. At the centre of this experience stands tall a certain John Marston, a product of the harsh circumstance of being raised an orphan to later joining banditry terrorizing the West, recently reformed and not above cutting deals with government goons to gain admittance to civilization and even a sliver o...

    Best Western game ever 0

This game is by far the best Wild West game out there. I'm a big fan of the genre but this game really took me in with amazing gameplay, storytelling and atmosphere.   You will get to know John Marston and you will start to associate yourself with him. The story is so well told that you will really feel emotions by the end of the story when .... (No spoilers) I recommend this game to everyone!...

    Amazing Experience 0

Some games take me a bit longer to take a liking to, when I first tried Red Dead I just couldn't get a feel for the shooting, never liked how the missions seemed to play out, and didn't like how much time I had to spend on a horse commuting from place to place. Things changed eventually, and I really started to appreciate all the finer points of the game: I don't think I've EVER been so impressed with environment art, it really got to the point where riding my horse ended up being one of my favo...

Beautiful Looking, But Clunky Story and Gameplay 0

I love western films and it is unfortunate that we do not get more games that are set as westerns. Red Dead Redemption is likely the best western we have seen developed to date. If you are familiar with Rock Star open world games then you are going to be right at home in this game. The saying that this is "GTA with horses" is mostly apt.Mechanically the game has some wonderful points to it that are hampered really by the characteristics of Rock Star's design. The world that the game is set in is...

A Beautiful mesh of narrative and adventure 0

It's painfully evident that throughout the past decade, the Western setting has never had a chance to prosper nor successfully break out into video games. There were various attempts, be it open world adventures or first-person shooters, but none truly garnered the success to become a fully fledged franchise. Not until Rockstar took to the genre and completely revolutionized to a level never before seen.Acquiring the rights to the Red Dead IP, Rockstar began working on the next installation. The...

    Legend of the West 0

I picked up Red Dead Redemption shortly after I heard it was playable through backwards compatibility on the Xbox One. It was one of those games that I had seen my brother play a lot growing up, and even tried myself, but never found myself fully invested in it. Maybe finishing Grand Theft Auto V finally taught me how to play and enjoy a Rockstar title. I never really played the GTA games as a kid and didn’t enjoy Grand Theft Auto IV–I was too bewildered and overwhelmed by the sheer ...
