Red's father, Dr. Okonogi, was a scrupulous scientist whose opposition to the criminal organisation Black X(known as Black Cross in Japan) led to the near total decimation of his immediate family when the vengeful organization attacked. Only Red seems to survive, thanks to the aid of the superhero Alkarl who grants the injured Red powers similar to his own in order to save his life.
These granted powers came at a price however, as Red was made to promise to never use them for revenge, only in the true pursuits of a hero. Red takes on the role of Alkaiser when he can steal some time away from his day job on the region ship Cygnus under command of his fathers old friend Hawk.
Alike most humans in Saga Frontier, Red is a fairly versatile character. His primary unique trait however, is his ability to transform into Alkaiser, which raises his stats and grants him access to several abilities peculiar to himself, although any battles won as Alkaiser won't raise Red's stats.
Several party members only appear in Red scenario, such as BJ&K, Doll and Rabbit.
Red and Asellus were neighbours prior to Asellus' accident twelve years earlier, which makes them two of the few main characters to have had a connection to one another prior to the game's beginning. According to the Japanese wikipedia page for Saga Frontier, "Red" is a nickname derived from the character's real name, Retsu.
