Overview
Refrigerators have thermal insulation on the interior and use a heat pump to lower the internal temperature to a point where it is suitable to store foodstuffs in. Putting food in a refrigerator allows it to be kept for longer, as storing it at a cooler temperature decreases the rate at which it spoils.
Use in Video Games
In video games refrigerators are mainly used as scenery, often in kitchens or other places where people are living or have lived. One notable case of refrigerators being used in gameplay however is in The Sims, where they provide sims with food to refill their hunger meter. Another is in Heavy Rain where multiple character can interact with a fridge and perform various actions with the contents. The fridge may also be used as part of a solution to a puzzle much later in the game.
