I have a problem. When playing games involving firearms I must constantly have a full clip. The only time it is acceptable to not have a full clip is if I plan to squeeze off a few rounds in the next two seconds. Regardless of the clip size, after every engagement (and multiple times within each engagement) I will reload my firearm. I can have a 100 round clip on my LMG with 99 rounds left in it and I will reload. I have been killed so many times reloading in MP that I just accept it now. The thought of running around in CoD with a half full AK47 or Thompson makes my skin crawl.
Some recent games where my reloading issues have had an impact on how I play:
F.E.A.R. 2 - I will reload every time I come out of slow-mo. I might run half the meter down and be sitting on half a clip with no more targets around, I will first hit X to reload and then Y to cancel slow-mo. I imagine this implies that reloading is more important than conserving a portion of my slow-mo time. I'll run out of slow-mo and and be surrounded by goons, and the moment I snap back to real time I will reload as I frantically try to take cover behind a desk.
Call of Duty 4 & World at War - Constant online reloads. It actually doesn't affect the game all that much because I tend to use most, if not all of a clip to kill a target anyway. I do reload under fire more than I would like and I will often reload immediately after killing someone, even if I am run n gunning around a corner.
Left 4 Dead - I use the shotgun / auto shotgun only. I love this weapon because of the fact that I can reload constantly. I try to stagger my shots and reload in between so I can keep my ammo count up. I rarely use the M16 or the Uzi, but I will say that being able to defend myself with melee when reloading means if I do choose to use the M16 or Uzi I will reload anytime I feel I can go half a second without an infected getting to me.
You get the idea. This only applies to ammo in guns, I can run down on mana or EVE or what have you and not refill that until it is needed, likely because refilling those requires the consumption of a scarce resource, but that's another story for another time. I've just come to accept this constant need to reload as a part of my gaming. It goes beyond my gaming though, if I am watching someone play FPS and they aren't rocking a full clip I will insist they reload. It just bothers me if they don't.
It's definitely something that I need to experience visually in order to have a reaction. It's not as if I need constant reassurance from my online teammates that their clips are full, if I can't see their ammo counts I don't care. I don't know how I would handle a game that shows my teammate's ammo counts, I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Reloading is the action of replacing the ammunition magazine inside a gun. It adds a touch of realism to most modern shooters, and a certain amount of tension when a player is forced to reload while under fire.

" I frequently reload too, but that's just good practice. It's not a problem or anything. "It definitely can be, especially in multiplayer... if you're reloading and start getting shot at it's game over.

More games need actual clip management instead of simple reloading from a loose ammo pile. So unrealistic. Soldiers don't carry a pocket full of loose bullets of all sizes that automatically load into a magazine when their gun empties. No, they carry three or four pre-loaded clips/magazines with them.
Once you notice you're throwing away all the un-fired bullets that are left in the clip every time you reload, you'll start only doing it when it's necessary.
This is one of the many things Battlefield 2 had that Bad Company 2 did not.
" @Rapid said:Yep" GOD yes I have this problem usually gets me killed =/ especially when I played Counter Strike "Counter Strike is the perfect example of a game that should use clip management instead of ammo piles. "
When I was cal-im for like 2 seasons,I cringed every time I saw someone constantly reload.
Btw,I'm not good anymore. No I don't want to play you. Yes you're better than me.

" I reload after EVERY gunfight, or in every break in the action. It's totally an OCD thing for me. "Really, I think that's the best thing to do. I see no reason why people shouldn't do that.
I also never waste ammo intentionally. Some people shoot dead corpses full of lead. Unless a person is doing it to check out the game's graphical abilities or something, then the person is FOOLISH.
I reload so much in Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 that I have an absolute reliance on Sleight of Hand. It bugs me to no end when I'm watching someone play, and they don't reload after a conflict. Sometimes I'm literally trying to grab my friend's controller to force them to reload.
I heard that The Thing game makes it so that when you reload you lose whatever leftover ammo was in the disposed clip, so maybe that could be a way to kick the habit, or only further annoy me.
" I heard that The Thing game makes it so that when you reload you lose whatever leftover ammo was in the disposed clip "Oh cool. Finally another game to add to the Clip Management concept page. That thing is disturbingly bare.
First off, its a MAGAZINE. Not a clip. Clips (short for moon clips) where originally used for revolvers to shoot rimmed cartridges such as in the 1917 Model 22. An auto loading pistol or rife uses a magazine. As a shooter and a gun owner, it really pissed me off when people and games refer to magazines as clips. Sorry. my rant is over...
But yes, I reload constantly, and yes I do sometimes get killed for it but having a full magazine isn't just an OCD thing, its a tactically sound concept. Below half a mag? dump it and slam in a new one. because you never know what's around the next corner.
" First off, its a MAGAZINE. Not a clip. "I'm frankly surprised it took this long for somebody to make that semantic distinction. Clip acceptable is slang for magazine, so says rap. It's like people calling an analog stick thumbstick a joystick.
But I digress. Reloading after every shot is only a reliable tactic in arcadey videogames. It's more of a crutch than anything. And in simmier games the habit can be a real hindrance.
I used to reload all the time as soon as I finished shooting. But when I started playing Battlefield 2 and only had two spare clips per life, I began approaching combat situations differently.
Rules of reloading: Reload all you like except when turning a corner, rushing with no cover, or in close quarters(With respect to the game).
There are many reasons to be OCD about reloading. First of all it is a good idea to have a full clip, and in most games you can cancel the reload if you encounter an enemy. Secondly the reload animations are always fun to watch. However, I rarely reload with sniper rifles and light machine guns. With sniper rifles you only need one or two bullets anyway, and with LMGs the reload times are very long and the magazines are too big for it to be necessary. But when I think of it, I mostly reload because I like watching the reload animation. My favorite thing about FPS games is watching the weapon shoot, reload, etc.
