Renegade Ops

Game » consists of 8 releases. First released on Sep 13, 2011

As the generically named "Renegade Ops" rogue military group, you must save the world from the stereotypical terrorist organization Inferno in this arcade top-down vehicular shooter from the studio that brought you Just Cause 2, and whose gameplay more than makes up for its storyline.

Why are you not on steam yet?

#1 Posted by GamesAreArt (10 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

They don't even have a release date. I can't wait till gets out.

#2 Posted by TimmiT (32 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

I have been wondering this since last wednesday. SEGA never said that the Steam version would be delayed.

I'm pretty sure they did.

A release date would be lovely.

@Infininja:

Well, Sega didn't do a very good job informing people of this. First time I heard of that. :/

I was about to do the samething, but PSN was down. Don't do this to me SEGA.

Some other digital retailers list it as the 23rd of this month *crosses fingers*

#8 Posted by Sneeze (74 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

Release date changed to "October" now on Steam..

#9 Posted by GamesAreArt (10 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

I know, I was talking about it to a guy on my dorm floor I gave one of my extra copies to and we were both raging when I saw it switched to october.

#10 Posted by MrKlorox (11079 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

Ah damn. I was considering picking it up during the lull. But there will be too many other games to play by then. I guess this will be a Summer Sale purchase next year.

Briefly on steam the release day was today. I was shocked, I told all my friends, and then I checked again and it was October. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

#13 Posted by bybeach (3933 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

ahhh, need to satisfy the consoles, first.

#14 Posted by edfromballarat (13 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

i sense this may be turning into builder/plumber time. october reads: "before christmas.... perhaps"

i've payed my darn money already so i'll just have to ride it out

play some dead island instead

#15 Posted by EVO (3505 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

I couldn't imagine playing this on keyboard & mouse. You guys are all gonna use controllers, right?

#16 Posted by edfromballarat (13 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

@EVO: 10-4. x-box controller for me

#17 Posted by GamesAreArt (10 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

@Evo If it's mouse and keyboard It probably would be good wouldn't be that bad, But I might just hook in my xbox controller. There is 2 perks though. A)4 pack I already bought and distributed(not on consoles), And B)I don't have to pay XBLExtortion.

I've had it pre-ordered since the day they put it up on Steam (almost two months ago) and now, over a week after the console-release and a day after it should've come out already we still don't even have a release date. Not exactly the best information policy I've ever encountered. Get your shit together Sega!

Gordon Freeman will be in the Steam version of Renegade Ops! OMGAH

#20 Posted by Sneeze (74 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago

Looks like it's been delayed yet again.

Luckily it's "only" 5 days.. So next try is now October 19th!

(But I love that the trailer says september)

#21 Posted by GamesAreArt (10 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Lol another delay lol

#22 Edited by huelarl (29 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

I wouldn't mind it as much if they would just say something about it, a simple tweet or somesuch; but the only information we get is yet another delay on the Steam page - one hour before fucking release. I'm sorry, but this is just getting retarded.

#23 Posted by Shikon (130 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

well there goes the plan to play this while i wait for battlefield 3....

#24 Posted by MonkfishEsq (148 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

I could muster up the tiniest bit of sympathy or understanding for SEGA or Avalanche if any of them posted something about WHY it's delayed. Nothing, not even a tweet. Even @sega was like "we weren't told of any delay!" When it was supposed to come out on the 14th.

Then it was delayed 5 days to the 19th. Then about 30 minutes before it was due to come out? Delayed another 4 days. Then about 10 minutes later the release date was changed to 'October 2011'.

Really sega? REALLY? I bet there will be absolutely nothing said about the delay, total media blackout. At least most other devs/publishers have the common fucking decency to tell the consumers why a product is delayed.

Get crushed and die SEGA under the weight of your sheer incompetence you useless no brained cunts.

#25 Posted by Ewy (48 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

This is getting rather insulting. I don't think anyone would've minded had they given a solid release from the start, or even a reasonable estimate; this constant bait and switch of delaying the game minutes before release, multiple times is absurd. SEGA properly fucked up here. You have to wonder what state the PC version is in, if this port isn't near-perfect then people will be pissed.

#26 Posted by jozzy (2033 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

I don't think it really sold that well, maybe they are adding more features to make it more enticing. I myself loved the game on the 360 and would advise anyone to buy it.

#27 Posted by MonkfishEsq (148 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

What features though? I'd be happy with what they released on the consoles seen as how awesome the game looks and Brads glowing review. Yeah they put the HL buggy in it but whatever. That doesn't really change the core gameplay that much. I just want to know what the fuck they're even doing over there for the game to not even have a release date anymore.

#28 Posted by GamesAreArt (10 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

I was talking with someone and I said it would be released after episode 3.

#29 Edited by Ewy (48 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@GamesAreArt: Gordon Freeman delays games. Fact.

Edit: We have our reason...

http://twitter.com/#!/SEGA/status/126701233611354112

The PC Digital release of Renegade Ops has been delayed for further optimization of the game. New release info soon, feedback welcome.
#30 Posted by Gregomasta (1540 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@MonkfishEsq: I agree. I AGREE.

#31 Posted by MonkfishEsq (148 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

"Optimization"

From all the quick looks and trailers it looks like the game ran pretty smooth on the 360 (outside of splitscreen)

Is it *really* that difficult to port a game from the 360 to the PC now? Game developers have had plenty fucking practice porting 360 games over to PC. They're both microsoft based platforms for christ sake.

#32 Posted by Eribuster (426 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Already put the pre-order in and I'm also sad and frustrated with all these delays. I wish Sega would just stop jerking us around.

#33 Posted by MonkfishEsq (148 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

The thing that makes me laugh the most is that the Just Cause 2 engine is considered one of the best running PC engines around. Why exactly do they need to 'optimize' something that already runs fantastically well on a wide range of hardware?

#34 Posted by Sn1PeR (140 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

This is an unsettling trend. Devs finish the game for consoles in time to go gold for disc pressing, then start focusing and inevitably delaying the PC version. It's a completely unacceptable practice.

Why have these delays gotten no press? The only people aware of it already pre-ordered the game :(

That's what I was thinking. At least I got it for only £6.45 from GreenManGaming due to a combination of their 15% preorder saving and the £2 credit I had in my account from purchasing Arkham City. Cancelled my Steam preorder of this game before switching. Was hoping to be playing this already by now...

This.

We're now being considered second class citizens. Is my $14.99 any different from a console player? I guess so.

#37 Posted by Spooty (86 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

I understand that shit happens games get delayed but this is fucking ridiculous. It doesn't help that the 4 player aspect is so prevalent. Since it offers the 4 pack my friends all chipped in and keep making plans out of our busy lives to get together and play this game but they keep delaying it. It's starting to get close to refund territory.

#38 Posted by GamesAreArt (10 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

This is going to be awesome if it actually gets released tomorrow.

Dear Renegade Ops Fans,

We are terribly sorry for the lack of updates regarding the delay of the game. However, the delay has been out of our hands and the communication with the players are supposed to go through the publisher, due to agreements around announcements etc.

With that said, we are again very sorry for the delay and we expect SEGA to announce more news about the PC version shortly.Thank you for your support and your patience.

Avalanche Studios

"...announce more news..." is not a good sign on the day of release. I would've called people who were cancelling pre-orders hyperbolic a few weeks ago, now I'm not so sure. I get the impression that Avalanche are not doing the PC port; they are moving into new offices and don't seem to know when this is coming out, when it should be out today. Sega are handling this woefully.

That said, it's still scheduled for release today. I don't fucking know at this point.

#40 Posted by Blackmoore (247 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Wow. I thought it came out the 14th and I was just waiting for a sale. I didn't realize that this was going on. Jeez.

#41 Posted by ds8k (406 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Steam has a countdown for it. Looks like it's unlocking at 6PM Eastern.

#42 Posted by Ewy (48 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

They did it, the sons of bitches actually did it. People; We have a videogame.

#43 Posted by Belabor (1 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

And.. it crashes on start with an error in ava_main. Well, that was nice.

#44 Posted by mosdl (2994 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Works great here, wish there was saving during missions. Mod? :)

#45 Posted by GamesAreArt (10 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

It's so awesome!!!! Beat two missions already(played the first twice, second once.)

#46 Posted by PollySMPS (413 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Played the first mission a couple of times last night and tried out multiplayer with a friend earlier to see if it'd be another case of crap netcode or bad port, and I'm happy to say everything seems up and up. Really fun stuff.

#47 Posted by Chris2KLee (2253 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Still messed up for me. I was wondering why it was delayed so much for PC, this is why I guess. Seems to be an issue with dual-core PCs even after the patch, so buyers beware. I am really disappointed.
