Resident Evil 5 Demo Is, Ironically, Live
Pass for me. I wanted to love it but I can't get past the controls. Although RE5 did make me realize how utterly awesome Dead Space is in retrospect.
Horrible, horrible, horrible clunky controls, having to rely on broken controls for tension is just bad game design. I know they are similar to RE games of old, but in this day and age they just aren't acceptable any more. So much for the Gears-like controls, unless they haven't been implemented yet?
The demo seems fine to me, i really cant wait to play this game. When i had only read about it i didn't want to play it at all figuring the co-op system would screw up the overall game especially if you were trying to play it solo but it actually plays very well with one or two people, A+ so far in my book from what Ive seen, I guess we'll have to wait and see what the full game has to offer.
Controls are fine but its not like people completely hate them, its just the fact that they haven't even modernized the controls since RE4.
I loved RE4 and was really looking forward to this game. I got the demo and the graphics were stunning, I'm happy so far. I take a few steps forward and play around with the controls. I don't know why it struck me as feeling so odd, after having played and loved RE4, but not being able to move and shoot at the same time feels so wrong now. It feels completely unnecessary and clunky for a modern game.
Oh and why is some chick following me around and making my screen flash when she fucks up? I don't know what it is with games giving you characters that follow you around, but I don't really like it. Especially when they make me change how I want to play the game.
Another thing, these hobos throwing axes at my head are supposed to be zombies, right? Zombies are supposed to die when I shoot them in the head, yes? Then why do headshots barely make these "zombies" flinch sometimes? I don't like that.
Then there's the almost unstoppable guys. The chainsaw one in particular. I am supposed to find a nice little spot, pop some shots into him, wait until he's uncomfortably close then run past him to the other side of this little street, turn around and repeat..? Then when just running away from him, I can't see behind me but by the time I do turn round he's right there and I gotta start running again. Great!
I want to say this: Resident Evil 5, you're doing it wrong!
The controls are alright. You just need to get used to them. Your mobile enough to kill of the enemies. I couldn't find the gears like controls though. I thought you were supposed to be able to move and shoot?
I found the controls to be irritating (and I played through RE4) and we could not play longer than 10 mins online as we would get disconnect errors. Don't know if its a local problem. What a turn off...
I though when they said controls inspired by Gears that they would make huge improvements but not at all...
LOVE the new controls. As someone w/ a 150,000+ score in Re4's Mercenaries and as someone who used to speed-run the "old-school" RE's in under 2 hours, the slight refinements made to the controls are more than enough to excite. However, I can easily understand how they will definitely be frustrating to new players used to this generation's more streamlined, more-mobile, "run-and-gun" controls.
The important thing to realize is that this isn't those games. It will take some rewiring to adjust to the controls and the philosophy behind them, but no game will match the roller-coaster ride RE5 will provide this year. Mark my words.
Yeah, people who are saying that the controls haven't changed since RE4, try side stepping in past RE games...
the.control..in.the.re5...demo.are.better.then.the.controls.in......re4............and.some.people.are.talknig.about.dead.space. being better then re5 how would you know capcom made one of the best action games of all time with re4 just ask the makers of gears of war they took alot from re4 and dead space dont even come close to the fun of re4
