So i'm more than half-way through this game 5-2 and it is awesome.
I intentionally skipped this game last year because of Dead Space. I played most of Dead Space and got really bored of it every level felt the same all the enemies looked alike the gameplay just got stale after a while. So after a break from the genre for a while i decided to pick up Resi 5 and man this game is so much better than Dead Space. The action is way more intense the setting is awesome and the graphics..oh man are they good. I haven't played Uncharted 2 for a while but the cutscenes in Resident Evil 5 are the best i've seen.
So the question. Most the guys on this forum love Dead Space, and i'm wondering if i'm missing something. Yeah the game controls better, but didn't you get bored after a while? I mean Resident Evil 5 has varied location and enemies while Dead Space didn't. If you do you like Dead Space more than Resident Evil 5, why?

This game is ridiculous.
I thought it was fun trying to unlock all the upgrades for every gun. I also really love Wesker. He's such a great villian.
I had fun with both games.
They feel very different to me and there are things i like about both.
I enjoyed the ridiculousness of the story in RE5 and felt the story in Dead Space wasn't great but i wasn't there for that.
Dead Space feels like a better game to me which is probably why i have played through it 3 times and gotten the full 1000 Gamerscore.
RE5 was fun but not as revolutionary as RE4 for the Survival Horror genre which is why it doesn't get as much acclaim.
I prefered Dead Space because it a much more horrific atmosphere. RE5 was supposed to contend it as a horror title, but of courses its pointing towards the actiong route. Which in that regard, the no moving while aiming does hamper it a little. Plus it has one of the most laughably terrible cover systems ever implemented.
RE5's boss battles weren't too fantastic either.

He was a great villian. For me, RE5 totally ruined him. He became more like a James Bond villian. "
@creamypies: Really? I thought his voice actor was great and fit the character well.
" I don't have ADD so constant change isn't needed and atmosphere is superior. "I feel the atmosphere in Resident Evil 5 is just as good. I feel the whole no hud on screen thing is overrated. The game i got sucked into most this year was Assassins Creed 2, and that game had a million icons on screed and shit flashes up on screen every 5 seconds.

In the FACE.
Then again, I'd only played small amounts of RE4 before RE5.
On topic: Dead Space has much better atmosphere than RE5, the guns feel better, and the bosses are just...better. I felt like I killed Cthulhu when I defeated the last boss in Dead Space, but Wesker just made me shrug.
" @SoylentGreen: I mean, after how important Wesker was to the RE story, how much he has done in the RE series, see him going like that is incredibly underwhelming. It disappointed me as a huge RE fan. "He will probably come back like he always does.
" @AjayRaz said:I hope so, even though it would be really fucking stupid to have someone come back after being shot by two rockets in the face while drowning in lava in a volcano." @SoylentGreen: I mean, after how important Wesker was to the RE story, how much he has done in the RE series, see him going like that is incredibly underwhelming. " I'm a huge fan of RE5. But, Dead Space is much better than RE5 in every aspect. "Seeing you liked it so much, i'm gonna ask you.
I stopped playing Dead Space after the first boss, the plant monster. Does the game get any better after that or is it just more of the same, because it feels like i've been doing the something in the same location for the entire game. Also is the story any good so far it's been pretty boring.
" I love Resident Evil 5 but if you prefer RE 5 over Dead Space, then you don't like survival horror games. "I think after i finish RE5, i'll finish Dead Space. Maybe after playing RE5 i'll have more fun with Dead Space.
I just hope i don't run into any more of those regenerating monsters, those are scary as hell, and not so fun to fight.
" @Dynamo22 said:Yes and no. The middle is a bit of a drag but the last few chapters make up for it." I'm a huge fan of RE5. But, Dead Space is much better than RE5 in every aspect. I know I am the minority when I say this, but I enjoyed Resident Evil 5 more than Dead Space. Both are really great games, but I found RE5 to be a much tighter experience all around in terms of pacing. Yeah, AI Sheva isn't too bright, but she's not the giant blemish that people enjoy exaggerating about when they shit on RE5. As for Wesker though, yeah he was kind of a bummer. But really, Resident Evil doesn't have a story worth caring about on a more than superficial level. There are too many plotholes and inconsistencies for it to be considered "good".

Liked both games. I think you have to take Resident Evil at face value as an action franchise with horror elements now, otherwise the discussion quickly becomes one that slights it for its inability to keep any reasonable amount of tension.
Dead Space was the more mature title. More exactly executed to the specifications of its hype or its targeted result. That is to say, Dead Space is a more precise, intelligent horror game. Resident Evil is kind of a bombastic action flick anymore. And that's what people are comparing.

indeed. "oops I stepped into lava". Not very smart mister Wesker!

I have to say I didn't really care for Dead Space. I don't exactly enjoy putting myself completely on edge for 40 minutes at a time, and the last third or so of the game just became one immense gauntlet of monsters which is the one thing I seriously despise about Survival Horror games. They spend the majority of the game making you converse every bit of ammo, making every shot count as best as possible, and then they dump an army on you in the last leg.
"Scantily clad women? I don't remember seeing any in RE5, unless you're talking about the evil lady who showed some cleavage.Because I value good writing and interactive storytelling about four billion times higher than hurr hurr durr explosions , graphics, and scantily clad women? "If you do you like Dead Space more than Resident Evil 5, why?

- You didn't really miss anything in Dead Space. You've just played to the point of it becoming repetitive.
"I mean Resident Evil 5 has varied location and enemies while Dead Space didn't."
- Even the most simple-minded individuals would realize that.
"If you do you like Dead Space more than Resident Evil 5, why?"
- Your question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also rhetorical.
