Yes, Resident Evil 5 Has A Mercenaries Mode
That's awesome that it has online co-op. I never enjoyed it too much in RE4. It was a cool bonus and all, and I guess I had some fun with it, but I'd rather just play through the campaign again. And again. And again and again and again.
I wasn't impressed by the demo. The game still doesn't play like a true third person shooter, which may have been fine back in '04, but I'm not going back to that now.
All I care for is the story mode. I tried this mode in RE4, and it was fun, but not something I would play too much.
Unlocked the handcannon in the PS2 and GameCube version. I should probably do it on the Wii version to warm up. I'm starting to think that leaderboards in this mode might be my new habit.
What's with all the hate?! This is RE4 with co-op. Exactly what i wanted! Plus this is supposed to be the end of this story. they are rebooting the story it with the next one. Pretty sure that means a control overhaul as well, the producer has pretty much said as much on 1up's cover story. RE was never meant to be like gears anyway.
If you want RE that lets you move while you shoot, try dead space, or lost planet. To be honest, I look at combat in RE more like a puzzle. you need to constanly think of how to best position yourself to attack instead of shooting randomly like in most games.
I completely agree with Light_Geiger. RE5 is not Gears, and certainly isnt meant to be...The combat is absolutely meant for strategic placing..taking shots when you have room, creating room to take a shot. Dead Space and Gears are fantastic games, its just that a comparison of those games to RE5 just doesn't work. Either way with all the hate for RE5 so far, it really does not make a difference....for me this game is going to be amazing.
all the hate this game is getting is really sad. i love how people keep saying its not a 'TRUE' TPS (whatever they mean by 'true'), and how everyone argues that not being able to move while shooting is DATED. Do you guys know the difference between a specific game design and something that is DATED? You could run and shoot in side-scrollers from the 80s, RE1 came out in 1996 and was probably the first TPS game to use the stand-and-shoot mechanic. According to your moronic logic, what's dated now? One of the main reasons why many people love RE 4 (and soon 5) over Gears and Uncharted and every other, quite honestly, STANDARD shooter, is because it plays so slowly and so differently. It's not meant to be Gears, its meant to be RE. It's not meant to be Dead Space, it's meant to be RE.
If you don't like the mechanic, fine, just don't go around whining 'OH, ITZ DATEDZ CAZ I DANT LIEK IT D:D:D:D:D:!!!!!111OONE!!!'. Resident Evil is its own genre, it doesn't need to be every-other-shooter. If you want your every-other-shooter, quit crying and get yourself one. There are tons of them out there, all of them very modern and unique and definitely not dated at all.

I think I've used the word "dated" before to describe them, but I agree with you here that it's not the word to use, it's just different. The reason I don't like to play this game is because the controls feel needlessly limited, which makes it frustrating in the game trying to do something so basic and not being able to.
