I'm glad to see this is selling so well in japan! Hopefully we'll see RE7 shortly after the new consoles launch. I'd really like if they brought back Claire.

Kinda wish it sold worse so that Capcom would take a look at what they did wrong.

If they think that sales success means that they made a quality game then RE is probably never going to be a quality series again. Right now we just gotta hope that they take a look at the critical response and fix it up for the next one.

#3 Posted by JJOR64 (19051 posts) -

Not surprising really. People know what "Resident Evil" is. regardless of quality.

Awesome. Glad to hear it. It deserves it, despite what all the internet hubub says.

#6 Posted by Godzilla_Sushi (1084 posts) -

I don't get any current or useful game industry information from the sales figures in Japan.

Big shout-out to Summon Knight 3! I heard you made a JRPG, props man! You're hot shit on this here Portable Playstation. Alright, gotta go, I gotta play Borderlands 2, and XCOM, and Uncharted, and Halo 4, and Super Meat Boy over here. We'll talk after the next Dynasty Warriors comes to both regions. Cya buddy!

Sounds good. I'm slowly wrapping up the story (up to Leon ch.5, Chris ch.5 and jake 4) and then of course the other campaign. I think it's really cool seeing how all the stories are coming together and combining. I guess I'm crazy since I find the over arching story as well as the 3 sub stories interesting.

#9 Posted by JasonR86 (9763 posts) -

Huh. Well, good for Capcom.

#10 Posted by MariachiMacabre (7099 posts) -

Well, I suppose now they'll think this game was a good idea. I don't exactly feel good about the direction they're taking the series so I was hoping reviews would hurt this game so Capcom would examine their strategy.

#11 Posted by Sooty (8082 posts) -

Just look at the fierce competition it had. This is such a surprise!

#12 Posted by ArbitraryWater (12004 posts) -

Surprise? I don't know if you know this, but Resident Evil is pretty popular, and it will take more than a few critics' disdain to keep it from selling.

#14 Posted by DarthOrange (3878 posts) -

I'm glad. Fuck the haters who haven't played it and fuck the reviewers who had stupid complaints.
I played a couple rounds of mercenaries with a Japanese dude today. We each got killed a couple of times but he was super cool about restarting. I've noticed that the Japanese don't rage quit as much as the Americans.

There's plenty of Japanese rage quitters on Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom.

I don't think there's any real grounds to such claims.

There is no critical press in Japan when Biohazard is concerned, all the gaming publications and sites consistently pile on praise. The Japanese love this B-movie crap.

Oh well, I guess I'm done with Resident Evil then.

#20 Posted by Doctorchimp (4078 posts) -

Resident Evil Retribution made 200 million dollars. It sells guys regardless of quality.

#21 Posted by Tim_the_Corsair (3065 posts) -

Lol why would you give a fuck about how it sold in Japan?

Or is this meant to be some kind of justification for those of you who like it despite the shellacking it is getting?

Out of curiousity, how many of you shit on COD or Madden or whatever and use those sales figures to point out how the millions of people who buy those are sheep?

#22 Edited by RazielCuts (2982 posts) -

Just waiting for Famitsu to give it all 40's..

And judging from this GameFaqs thread they almost did - http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/605603-resident-evil-6/64226325

Japanese publication Famitsu gave the game a 39/40

The 39/40 score puts Resident Evil 6 one point ahead of Resident Evil 5

Three of the four critics gave the game a perfect 10 while the last one gave it a 9
#23 Posted by Genkkaku (738 posts) -

It was always going to sell well regardless..

This really shows it's a different world out there. It'd be good to get some insight on exactly why it sold so well in Japan when it's received such strong criticism in the west.

Oh Japan, y u so crazy?

#26 Edited by supamon (1334 posts) -

Why would anyone expect any different? A numbered RE comes every few years. Even if it's complete shit (not saying it is, haven't played it myself) people will still buy it just because they can.

And I don't buy into the "Japanese critics showering RE6 with praise so japadrones will buy it". This is the internet, there's no region locking. They probably know the critics in the west don't like RE6 and don't care.

I'm the biggest RE fan out there, the game totally sucks!

Yup. This game is Quantom Theory levels of shit.

Just want to specify that I am not staring that it is shit myself; I haven't played it, although I am guessing that it isn't great based upon opinions I respect.

It's also not something I think I'd enjoy regardless, so I'm somewhat neutral in that I have pretty equal disdain for the entire series.

How was it critically received in Japan?

#33 Posted by Quarters (1814 posts) -

Does my heart good to hear this. I absolutely love the game, and want to see it get the success it deserves.

@Snail said:

I know that Famitsu gave it 39/40. But Famitsu are hardly the most... ethical of reviewers. I think it's been well received by the press over there.

#35 Posted by cmblasko (1322 posts) -

People love them some Resident Evil. I am really interested to see how RE7 (or whatever the sequel will be called) sells in the west when it inevitably drops. Then we will see if the harsh critical response to RE6 resonates with the mainstream fanbase and translates to poorer sales for its sequel, as it seems pretty clear by now that RE6 is going to be a massive financial success.

#36 Posted by Yummylee (22292 posts) -

Gross, but expected. It's no doubt going to do well over in the West at that, what with even undisputed faecal matter like Operation Raccoon City managing to nail around 2mil in sales. (!?)

I'm really hoping they throw some RE5 style add-ons up for download down the line. I'll most likely buy all the mercs stuff because maaaaaaaaan I want new mercs maps but I'd also love me some new story stuff.

#39 Posted by Jack268 (3387 posts) -

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm glad people won't be getting laid off over critic response

#40 Posted by Guided_By_Tigers (8061 posts) -

#41 Posted by Azteck (7449 posts) -

World Soccer Winning Eleven 2013

Is this a real thing or just bad translation?

#42 Posted by Fredchuckdave (6002 posts) -

Pretty decent chance for RE6 to outsell everything but CoD and Halo 4 this year

It's the Japanese title of the Pro Evolution Soccer series.

I can't find NA sales numbers at all yet even good ol' VGchartz doesn't have figures yet.

#46 Posted by Rawrz (598 posts) -

Surprise surprise. Resident Evil in Japan is like Call of Duty over here where it sells on name alone. Raccoon City sold well also and that game was shit too.

#47 Edited by Bourbon_Warrior (4523 posts) -

Meh 2 crappy Resident Evil games in one year, one even had 4 campaigns. Seriously guys just focus your efforts on something good. The biggest insult I can give Resident Evil 6 was it had no confidence in why people played it before. They just wanted big action set pieces every hour like COD series. I even loved Resident Evil 5 it was a great sequel to 4 but yeah it sucks that a established and respected franchise felt like they had to change so much to get people to buy it, I love Gears of War 3 but I want a clunky ass Resident Evil game at the same time where I have to stand still to shoot, it would be like if the next season of Breaking Bad had a laugh track over it because Two and a Half Men gets so many viewers.

#48 Posted by ironlocke (4 posts) -

Not surprised. Crappy shit tends to sell. Look at ORC.

@CL60:

I would have told you to stop speaking Korean, but I can't remember the kanji that would make it Korean. _国語. Something like that.
