The return of a pure horror section in Leon's story, all-around better combat scenarios, mixed with amping up the zombies to one-hundred ten, plus a total ensemble reunion for a lot of classic characters. This game seems like what I want from a new Resident Evil title. The only concern I have is the section lengths for everybody's story parts. I hope they all aren't just four hours long. I want that lengthy shit!

High expectations for an upcoming video game?

I would be extremely surprised if each section is more than four hours long. Thats a 12 hour game... Even stumbling through it, RE4 is about 12 and RE5 is about 10. And once you know what you're doing it's about 3.

I am still pretty bummed about the constant companions. I was hoping for pure singleplayer campaign from Leon with multiplayer being saved for Chris and the Wesker kid.

@TentPole: Judging by what Jeff was talking about on the podcast, it looks Leon will end up alone.

@Brodehouse: I'd be okay with 4-hour story sections. As much as I loved RE4, it's easy to see where it starts to drag (hint: it's the military complex), and RE5 suffers the same problem except five minutes in instead of ten hours. This will give them a chance to make a tight, slick story for each character while making it feel substantial.

I can't wait. I loved Resident Evil 5, but I think it was mostly due to the fact I played it with a friend. The co-op is damn fun.

RE6 is meant to be pretty huge; CAPCOM have over 600 people working on it, the biggest number of folk they've had working on a single game ever, and from what I've heard through interviews, each specific story is meant to be just a little shorter than the entirety of RE5's campaign. So I'm betting maybe 5-6 hours or something like that per campaign. Besides the three stories, there'll of course be the final chapter where everyone and everything all culminates in China, so that could possibly be another 1-2 hours as well.

    @Napalm said:

Nah, each story is unfortunately coop go time at all times. Play single player and you'll be stuck with an AI =/ It makes perfect sense for Chris and Jake's segments, but Leon's acting as a throwback to RE4 and the slower pace of even the old school RE's, I would of hoped they'd go the full mile and give you a purely single player RE experience. Especially considering that they're all entirely separate from one another anyway; it's not like you'll be with a friend and then he'll be kicked out as the story transitions into Leon's.

I'm still so goddamn excited all the same, though. RE6 is at the top of my must have list for this year; I'll even be getting me the special/collectors/delux/directors cut edition if they release one that isn't roughly around £810...

Also, Mercenaries is going to return, and there's still the rumour IGN brought up that there'll be an additional story chapter where you play as Ada. Oh, and there's also some competitive multiplayer element that CAPCOM have allured to add to things. Suffice to say, when it comes to value, I'm pretty sure RE6 will deliver.

I haven't read every scrap of RE6 info out there, but here's a dumb question: When the storylines converge, who will you play as? Will you have a choice? I feel like I'm missing something here..

EDIT: I'm also wondering if who'll you'll play as will just flip back and forth once the storylines converge. That would be kind of unwieldy, I'd think.

Overall I am still excited for this game and have loved all of the Resident Evil games except for the first two gun survivor games.

I imagine it'll switch to Chris and Leon teaming up together during the part where everything collides into China. It hasn't been confirmed mind you, but I feel like that would be most fitting solution to handle things. I can't see how they can't deliver on such a monumental concept of fan-service; they even opted to remove Leon from the Mercenaries 3D game just so you couldn't have Chris & Leon working together. They were saving the pairing for something special, and RE6 looks like it'll be it.

I'm not a fan of the HUD and crosshair. If they're still using the same engine then all that stuff is easily removed on the PC version. At least, I hope it is, because as it stands now that HUD looks bunk. Other than that, it looks interesting.

@Abyssfull It almost makes the most sense for Leon's section to have co-op, he's always had his games based around escorting tagalongs. Of course, I'm sure Helena is as competent as Sheva and not a dumpster hider like Ashley.

It would actually be interesting if the co-op player had to play as a weak character who has to avoid damage and try to help out Leon with thrown pots or environmental hazards. But no one would want to play as the wussy character so there goes that.

I extra excited for their effort to make it more survival horror, but I probably would've picked it up if it was RE5 like action.

My expectations are... roughly the same as they were before. Which is to say that I was on board with the first trailer. Considering that the second trailer is even more insane and I've received assurance that you can move and shoot I am now less apologetic about allowing my inner Resident Evil fanboy to dictate my decisions.

Remaining incredibly skeptical about this one. RE5 would've been fantastic had it been just a bit slower, with a slightly higher emphasis on the atmosphere and environment. I missed being able to walk up to stuff and press <insert context sensitive button here> to get some sort of in-universe description. RE5 felt like it was constantly funneling me towards the next action sequence without letting me ever just take in the world for a few minutes. I have very little faith that RE6 will do anything to rectify this.

This is the crucial difference between RE4 being a masterpiece and RE5 being, from my point of view, really rather shite: PACING.

Holding out for a demo or the opportunity to play it at a friend's house before I give Capcom my money.

But no one would want to play as the wussy character so there goes that.

If they threw another NPC 'Ashley' on you, I'd of been fine with that; it wouldn't be very fun in a cooperative sense where the other player takes control of Ashley 2.0, but that's why it would of benefited as being a solo joint. If they were going to keep it consistent with Leon's typical duties, they wouldn't of given him an equally capable ally to always be at his side.

There was Ada during RE2, but she was only there for very limited appearances and wasn't fitted with a dynamic AI like Sheva and Helena/Piers/Sherry will be. She was primarily a story device. The best case scenario would of been Leon on his own in any case; maybe there'll be an ally NPC that'll crop up from time to time, but by and large, it's just you, your pistol/flashlight trying to stave off the overwhelming odds on your own.

The 'tagalong' character if anything actually looks to be saddled with Jake. During the trailer, we didn't see Sherry do much besides what looked like giving Jake an adrenaline shot ala RE5. Jake looked like he was doing a lot... of everything, so I'm curious to see how that campaign pans out. It sounds like it's centred as a lot of fast-paced chase sequences with some mobs to slow you down during portions of it.

I love that they seem to sort of bring back the "scenarios" from RE2 where you can choose which you play first and stuff changes depending on your choice.

Plus, going by the trailer, they seem to take the voice acting/story presentation a lot more seriously this time.

I'm very excited. After playing RE5 to death despite not really liking it that much (I just wanted all the trophies and the chapter select made that easy plus I had a lot of time on my hands...) I crave something that feels more like old RE. The game won't fully live up to that, I know, but I'm optimistic that they come close at least. (Revelations was a step in the right direction with the ship parts)

I wouldn't say through the roof, but I'm definitely interested. I enjoyed RE5 as a co-op experience, but I will likely be playing this one without a partner, so I sincerely hope Capcom cleaned up RE5's dodgy AI and clunky inventory management. Still, it looks batshit enough that I'll at least give it a shot, polished or not.

Same here. I hate what this series has turned into after RE4. I hate the spin offs, and I think adding full time companions is the worst thing the series could have done.

I love 4 and I liked 5 a hell of a lot so my expectations for this were always pretty high. I really don't see this being any more horror-like than 4 or Revelations. I bet the game will start out creepy/scary and the back half will be very similar to Revelations and just be a ton of shooting.

Eh? The first time I played through RE4, a few months ago, on the normal difficulty, it took me about 18 hours, and I wasn't stumbling around. And that's just the main campaign - there are two bonus campaigns with Ada Wong in them. Maybe RE4 can be beaten in 12 hours by an experienced player but a newbie couldn't pull that off.

RE5 is a good bit shorter and plays like the cliffnotes of RE4, but I still thought it was around ten hours. Might have been 8 on that one, though.

Though, I wouldn't bet that RE6's campaign is anything more than 12 hours long, if that, and I doubt that Leon's campaign is actually going to be "scary" in the sense that even the old ones were, and definitely won't be anything like Amnesia or Silent Hill 2 levels of scary. Prove me wrong, Capcom, and I might buy two copies.

As for expectations being through the roof, that's the hype getting to you. Certainly not a bad thing to be excited about something, but trust me when I say to keep it in check. If the actual game doesn't live up you'll hate it forever.

...Yeah, I don't see it. I'm not calling you a liar, I just don't see how anyone could have died that many times and fully explored everywhere the first time through in only 15 hours.

I was about to say, I'm pretty sure Resident Evil 4 took me around twenty hours. But I was also looking in all the nooks and reading everything.

I played through it for the first time, doing just about everything and dying more times than I think most do (62 times..!) and it was 15 hours for me.

...Yeah, I don't see it. I'm not calling you a liar, I just don't see how anyone could have died that many times and fully explored everywhere the first time through in only 15 hours.

I did it like a few months ago. That's how I know the amount of deaths. I'm pretty sure I looked all around in that game. I got the blue medallions, I guess I didn't bother with the shooting range.

I'm not sure they're through the roof, but they are definitely higher than they were. I don't expect this to wrap up the series, but if they can make the story stay together and be compelling and update the gameplay, they might be onto a good RE game.

I wish I had the drive and dedication to slough through the first three Resident Evil games I got from PS+ so I can feel adequately hyped as a superfan, but I am really excited for RE6 now.

Leon's story isn't going to be scary because Resident Evil has never been scary, minus some moments in the remake (goddamn Neptune...). What I'm personally after is that it will at least give a much more oppressive and moody atmosphere (which judging by the trailers, that can be ticked off), and the pacing isn't so off the rails as it was for like 90% of RE5. There's going to be a fair bit of action even during Leon's story, I don't doubt that at all, but hopefully there'll be as many moments that'll remind me why I was drawn to the series to begin with.

Plus everytime they've shown Leon's story, he's only using his pistol. And while it may be too much to hope for, I'd be ecstatic if weaponry and ammunition was a little harder to come by, or that they'll at least throw far too many enemies that you can handle despite packing shotguns and magnums.

It's all so hard to predict at this point. They're clearly trying to sell the idea that Leon's story will hark back to certain tropes of the older games, and for as much as i want to be a believer259 (teehee... sorry) and cave in to the possibilities, I think it's safer if I try to remain sceptical.

RE5 was disappointing, but the trailer looks pretty neat and the 3 concurrent stories look interesting. No matter what I'm buying it anyway as I have with just about all RE titles to date, but if it's really good, that would make me happy.

I just hate the fact that... THERE ARE CROSSHAIRS! UGH! But yeah, my expectations are pretty fucking high. I bet it's going to be a good game, hell, it may be the best Resident Evil yet.
Also, i want a "Streets Of Rage/Double Dragon" kind of ending where Chris and Leon fight It will be pretty cool in co-op.

Since the single player enforce the co-op I will skip it. I hope it fares better on single player than RE 5, although my expectations are low.

Sasaki is going around saying that RE6 is meant to be ''30 hours long''. Sounds like typical hyperbolic promo-speak, but that'd be insane if true. Though he still doesn't deny that each campaign is meant to be a ''little shorter than RE5'', which was around 8 hours long I think, but 10 hours I guess seems plausible. Still, even if it were on average to hit 20 hours, that's a lot of time to spread across a shooter. Hopefully the 3 campaigns will be as diverse as they're making them appear to be.
