If the mostly positive talk (we'll have a Quick Look up tomorrow) about Resident Evil: Revelations has you considering the series’ debut on 3DS but price is an obstacle, maybe Capcom has worked out a solution.

The company announced this afternoon that Resident Evil: Revelations retail price would be dropping from $49.99, which is more expensive than most games you’d regularly buy for a 3DS, to $39.99--a $10 cut.

“Since the announcement of the $49.99 price point, we've spent weeks looking for a way to bring your cost down to standard 3DS pricing,” said community manager Bret Elston. “Today we can finally confirm we were successful in this, and hope the reduced price encourages even more people to check out this strong entry in the Resident Evil canon.”

It’s unclear what hurdles Capcom lept over in order to bring the price down $10, but for the price sensitive consumer, it doesn’t really matter. At the end of the day, the next Resident Evil is cheaper to buy on February 7.

@dcfox: I was going to say the same thing; I guess Mercenaries was technically pulled from a previous RE game, so it's not really a debut, except it was the first RE on 3DS and AHHH MY HEAD SPLODED

Why is everything coming out on February 7th? Any of these games could have owned January. Publishers are stupid.

I was already going to pick it up after playing the demo (it plays okay but by god is it beautiful), so grabbing it for the standard $40 re-affirms that decision.

After playing the demo and realized that it had it's scary moments and puzzles (you know, stuff RE5 didn't have), I actually really want this now. And man is it an incredible looking game.

I'm guessing they polled some people, and the poll showed that even if the game got very good reviews, people weren't interested in paying $50 for a handheld game, BECAUSE THAT'S FUCKING CRAZY.

That's still about $20 more than I would pay for a handheld game at this point, but I guess it's a move in the right direction.

Remember back when we could take Capcom seriously? It's been about 4 years since then. Sigh.

oh wow, they printed the title wrong on that print run of the cases in america? Suppose the price drop is for the best with a slip up like that >.< My copy (UK) Seems free from that typo. Pretty funny that such a typo slipped through though.

I don't blame any of the skeptics in this thread. You can only trick people so many times until they wisen up -- I mean, I'm at about the same place with Nintendo's handhelds. I usually wait a year to buy AAA games incase of GOTY edition announcements, but Capcom is one of the developers I always wait to purchase from. Worked out for me in the end concerning Street Fighter IV, at least.

Not only was there a box art typo fiasco, but some over at GAF seem to be reporting low-res box art, like Inkjet printer box art. Maybe this was their "solution?" It's not like they can remove content or reduce the price of 3DS carts.

What?! I had no idea they had the stones to charge $50 for a 3DS game in the first place (guess due to the fact I don't own one). $40 is still a little rough, in my opinion.

The demo was fun and had a classic Resident Evil vibe.  Glad Capcom has for once come to their goddamn senses.

They'll make up for it by releasing ridiculous DLC that doesn't suit the game which is probably already in the game anyway just like RE5.

They may also just wait and release 3 or 4 more versions of it just like they do their fighting games.

I don't buy the "we've spent weeks looking for a way to bring your cost down to standard 3DS pricing" comment. I'll buy the game eventually, but I've been soured by Capcom lately. I really like the Phoenix Wright games but I never bought UMvC3, and they should have localized the second Edgeworth game. And then there's the Mega Man stuff... ><

Your mistakes may be many Capcom, but keep providing me with Resident Evil and I'll always love you.
