Resistance: Fall of Man Review
Resistance: Fall of Man was one of the first FPS games for the PS3 released. It basically gave you a slightly different twist around the World War II era. You are going to be playing a character that gets infected by a "virus", but yet doesn't have all the regular symtoms that most others experience. You will be left on your own from time to time fighting off mutated soldiers, and using an array of weapons.
The graphics in this game are what you would expect from a PS3 game, and the environments can draw a player into the era of time that the game takes place. Some of the cut scenes in my opinion don't look as polished as others, but then maybe that's just me. I do really like the different models used on the enemies as well as the weapons. The use of dark I think might have been a tad overused, but its suppose to look like war time so I'll let it slide.
The controls, if you were to play with the ones provided for you by the game, DO NOT feel natural. I tried to play the game as they intended it and it only took one level, and my death (14 times) to change them to a slightly different setup. I will give the game that though, you can swap any button press with another one.
As for the gameplay, I'm going to have to say that if I hadn't played Gears of War first, and possibly seen the medicore movie, in some people's opinions, Doom, I would have really enjoyed this game. I do think that from time to time the difficult definitely can hit extremes, but if you play smart and don't go all Rambo you should be able to get through most of the game with only a couple of deaths on your record. I don't know if it was the control scheme, or maybe the fact that I'm not the top FPS player, but the first level of the game, before infection took forever for me. The repetitive deaths that I had, and there being no way to heal caused mounting frustration and almost caused the game to go on the shelf without being further played. I was very relieved to find that after that level you do have access to healing items, though sometimes I was left wishing, when my health was maxed, that I could pick up some of those items for use later as I'm pinned down in a fight.
The PlayStation has suffered greatly in my opinion because of a lack of games, I know that people will disagree with my adamantly, but in truth there have only been a handful of games that have peaked my interest. This would be one of them, but I will say it again I think the enjoyment of this game goes up if you haven't played Gears of War. I know that there are huge differences, but to someone who doesn't game exclusively on FPS, I'm seeing a similar experience. 8.2 out of 10.
