Samus Aran is the protagonist of the Metroid series. As a bounty hunter, she uses her armored power suit to hunt space pirates and other dangerous forces. She frequently crosses paths with dangerous creatures called Metroids in her adventures.
One of the most iconic characters in the Metroid series. He is the Space Pirate general, and a recurring boss in the series. Ridley is Samus's arch-nemesis, and killed her parents when she was very young.

A surly, crotchety old widower, Cranky Kong made his first appearance in 1994's Donkey Kong Country for the SNES, heralded as the acerbic, wisecracking grandfather of the current Donkey Kong. He was the star of the original Donkey Kong, a fact he lets no one forget.
Diddy Kong made his first appearance in 1994 as Donkey Kong's side-kick in Donkey Kong Country for the SNES. Since then, he has starred in numerous Donkey Kong games, his own Diddy Kong Racing games and Mario sports titles. He wears a red Nintendo hat.

O-Lir was a Luminoth who lived in Aether. He was Guardian of Sanctuary Temple.
I-Sha was a Luminoth who lived in Aether. He was Guardian of Agon Temple.
A-Voq was a Luminoth who lived in Aether. He was Guardian of Torvus Temple.
A boss in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. The Spider Guardian is a dark pillbug infused with Samus Aran's spider ball ability and is notable both for its damaging aura and for being the only boss in the trilogy to be fought entirely in Morph Ball mode.

Princess Peach Toadstool is usually the damsel in distress from the Mario franchise. She gets kidnapped frequently by Bowser, though she's not averse to being captured by various other villains from time to time.
