Return of the Obra Dinn is a first-person adventure game by Lucas Pope, an indie developer best known for creating Papers, Please.

The game, built in the Unity 3D engine, is polygonal but uses 1-bit graphics rendering to recreate the grayscale look of early Macintosh games, like Shadowgate.

The Obra Dinn is an East India Company vessel that never arrived at its rendezvous point, the Cape of Good Hope, and was subsequently declared lost at sea. But now, on October 14th, 1808, it has appeared off the coast of Falmouth, England. The ship is heavily damaged and there is no visible crew onboard. The player takes the role of an insurance adjuster of the East India Company that must board the ghost ship and uncover what has happened during the voyage.

The player is given a device, Momento Moris "Remember Death," that can listen to the last few moments of a person's life as well as walk about the surroundings at the exact moment of their death. Using this device and the player's own deductive skills, the player must piece together what has happened to the crew and passengers while gradually filling out the crew manifest. The manifest confirms every three crew members' identities and fates once correctly specified.
