Okay so I picked up Phantasmagoria, on sale, from GOG.com for Halloween. While there is a lot unintentional hilarity in this cheese factory as a game it was pretty awful. The puzzles were easy and barely existent. Anyway, I'm kinda glad I played through this "benchmark" game but what is driving me crazy is how so many people seem to be overly nostalgic for this game. I'm, admittedly, completely basing this off comments in the game page at GOG.com but the majority of the posts are positive.

Well, I'll at least include the trailer that has way too much blue screen for it's own good.

Also a game play video that shows what playing this game is really like.

And now I'm contemplating on playing it's sequel Phantasmagoria 2: Puzzle of Flesh. So I guess they won?

FMV in games was the shit at the time so I guess most people just overtly excited about that. I played it when I was really, really young so I never fully understood it (nor finished it). I remember the second one was a little better in some respects but that's not saying much because those puzzles are still really dumb (who should've known getting your wallet from under a couch can be so stupidly complex?) I recommend that you still play it though. It's pretty crazy/dumb at some points.

I never tried this one out, did play the 7th Guest back in the day though, another nostalgic adventure/puzzler classic. (Damn you microscope puzzle!!!)

I probably will but first I'm going to replay the first 2 Gabriel Knight games and maybe try the third. Since I picked them up at the same time. I do enjoy FMV games, but it's mostly been contained to The Beast Within and the last 3 proper Wing Commander games.
