Rochard is fun, but filled with Stereotypes.

Spoilers to the game, I guess it's a plot point.

Why is it that the Native Indian Owns a Casino?

Why do all the bad guys talk like stereo typical homosexuals?

I played the game and enjoyed it, I wasn't really paying attention to the story, but those two things really stuck out to me. Anyone else think that these characterizations were in poor taste?

I thought the effiminate guards was pretty funny, not offensive.  I'm not an expert on stereotyping, but as I understand it, since nobody is actually singled out as actually being gay, and nobody says anything bad against gays, it's not offensive.  No more than if they sounded like they were from Brooklyn.  I felt like it subverted the normal dialog of guards which tends to be "I see him, shoot".

People actually getting offended by incredibly trivial shit likes this will never cease to blow my mind.

Effeminate! that was the word I was looking for. Also, not offended by it. but did think it was in poor taste.

I'm stuck early in the casino area, annoying as hell.

It is in the "get to the chief's office" part, there is broken elevator and 2 fuse sockets below it. To the left there is a room accessible via a hatch, but it has the blue field,so I can't get the fuse in that room back out into the main room. Must be missing something simple

@SuperCycle: Agreed. It's not only poor taste, it's lazy juvenile characterization. Or maybe that's why it's poor taste. In any case, both were disappointing facets of an otherwise solid game.

I know you didn't mean harm by what you said, but let me explain a few things to you.

1. YOU don't get to decide what's offensive and what's not. It may not have been offensive to you, but that doesn't mean it's not offensive to others. It sure offended me.

2. It doesn' t matter that no one is explicitly singled out as gay, the stereotype is there. You can find countless movies, TV shows and other forms of media that have effeminate male characters being made out to be the fool. They don't say they're gay, but the implication is obvious.

3. Think about it like this: Rochard is a butch, manly, "git-r-done" blue-collar dude who is blasting his way through countless fem men. Doesn't that strike you as a little...icky?

Are you saying the effeminacy is a special set of mannerisms that cannot be used?    If it can, when is it ok?
